Miguel Ángel López won the fourth stage of the Alps Tour

After bad comments about the performance of 'Superman' Lopez, the Colombian showed that he has the physique to play the Giro d'Italia

Miguel Ángel López (Astana) won the fourth stage of the Alps Tour this Thursday, reaching the summit of Kals am Grossglockner in Austria, in front of the French Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) alone, while Spaniard Pello Bilbao continues to lead the overall standings. The 28-year-old Colombian won the 22nd victory of his career, having raised his arms for the last time in the 18th stage of the Vuelta a España in September 2021.

The climber of the Astana formation jumped out of the peloton 4 kilometers from the top, to catch up with the Frenchman when it was about 1 kilometer to the finish line, dropping him to 700 meters, to win the 142-kilometer stage alone. In the squad, the favorites were scored throughout the final climb, but Romain Bardet (DSM), third of the stage, sprinted to get 4 bonus seconds, ahead of race leader Pello Bilbao.

Overall, Bilbao (Bahrain) has only two seconds ahead of Frenchman Romain Bardet and 12 seconds ahead of Attila Valter (Groupama-FDJ). On the other hand, Colombia's Santiago Buitrago remains in the top 10 overall, while Esteban Chaves dropped a few boxes and is now ranked number 20.

STAGE 5. Lienz — Lienz. 116 km

The last stage is the shortest of the race: 116 kilometers, but on difficult terrain. After an easy 30 km, cyclists will have to climb the Bannberg (5.5 km to 10%) on its most demanding side. A steep and curvy descent will lead you to the next climb up Assling (4 km to 10%). A series of ups and downs will take the runners to the intermediate sprint in Anras. After the sprint, 15 km quiet to climb the Bannberg again on its simplest side. After a descent, the road will lead them to Lienz, where they will cross the finish line for the first time, although before the end of the real stage they will have to climb Stronach (3 km with double digits). At the top of the port, there will be 10 km left for the closure, the first five in descent and the following plains. Here, in Lienz, the 2022 Alps Tour will end.
