Under the direction of Jeff Fowler, Sonic, the new Paramount Pictures' film that is already in theaters, brings back the blue hedgehog out of video games which, after a bumpy start in his first film (the whole character design was changed before its release), today has a great time in theaters and a good reception from the public. It has renowned actors in the original version and is voiced by Ben Schwartz in the role of Sonic. In Latin America, Luisito Comunica is the one who gives life to the character.
Luis Arturo Villar Sudek, best known as Luisito Comunica, is a youtuber and influencer with millions of followers on social media. He also has a radio program and restaurants, and travels the world recounting his experiences. It's addictive. His tone of voice, the way he writes his stories, his gestures: it all adds up to the show that has been on different internet platforms for almost 15 years. And it became a benchmark for content creators throughout Latin America. So much so that Paramount looked at his abilities to play the blue hedgehog, not once but twice.
In 2020, the year of the pandemic, Sonic was released in a few open cinemas around the world. The bet was huge, as the character of SEGA has a fandom of several decades. After that misstep with his appearance, the image of the hedgehog finally convinced users of social networks. Luisito was traveling —as is customary—, in a taxi, when he received the call to interpret Sonic's voice in the spanish dubbed version.
The impact was positive and he got a second chance.
“Just when I found out I was underwater. I was diving, or at least trying to dive, and I had my phone paired in my ear. Then they marked me, it was ugly under the water, and it will be that they told me something about Sonic 2, I don't know. And then I came out like a dolphin to the surface and they confirmed the information to me,” Luisito reminded Infobae via video call just two days before the film's release. He stressed that these projects don't make him nervous, but he clarified: “Just because I don't get nervous doesn't mean I take it lightly. For nothing. Obviously, a role like that you take it with the seriousness it deserves, don't you? Because he knows he's going to be representing something that means a lot to millions.”
He was born in Puebla, Mexico, in 1991. He studied communication sciences and applied all that knowledge to his own career. Known to his fans as “El Pillo”, he has 40 million followers on Instagram alone and 38 million subscribers on YouTube. It is a global phenomenon, but it is not considered a person to follow: “No, let's see... I don't think I'm an example, really. No, not at all, I would not consider myself an example at all,” he said.
He also talked about what a challenging project is for him today: “When an opportunity to do something falls, if it excites me and makes me want to do it, I do it. It's like my only parameter.” And he played to imagine what would happen if he could have the character's powers.
“The ring that transports you to other places: how useful would it have been in many situations! When you get into some kind of trouble or just have to be in another country in a short time... One, who has neither rings nor a private jet and has to be making stopovers at airports, I would have used that ring 200 times already.”
Sonic 2 has the public approval. They talk about a much more entertaining and well-made video game adaptation than their first installment and it is still on the bill. In addition to having big names in its cast such as James Marsden (Tom Wachowski) and Jim Carrey (Dr. Ivo Robotnik/Dr. Eggman), this second time Idris Elba joined in the role of Sonic's opponent, Knuckles.
And this second round, he also brought him to Luisito, who cannot guarantee that there will be one more, but he is ready if it is confirmed: “On my part, yes. We don't know if there's going to be a third, we don't know if he's going to make another kind of movie. We'll see. But I always board with the good Sonic.”
