The Attorney General of the Nation, Francisco Barbosa, confirmed that 6 of the 7 cases of homicide against the LGBTIQ+ community that have been registered in Medellin so far in 2022, would be directly related to each other.
According to Barbosa, although these crimes were considered systematic according to the investigations carried out, so far they do not know what the exact role of the perpetrators would have been in each of these murders.
Faced with these events that are putting the lives of the gay community in the capital of Antioquia at risk, the Attorney General called on people to be responsible with mobile dating applications, such as Grindr, through which citizens belonging to the LGBTIQ+ population are looking for a partner, in order to avoid tragic endings.

“It is necessary for citizens to know that these structures involve murderers and people linked to criminal organizations that affect the rights of citizens,” Barbosa said while announcing that, in the face of this spate of crimes in Medellín, a special group was created in the city to deal with the aggressions against the LGBTIQ+ community.
For her part, the delegate for territorial security, Luisa Obando, reported that, in the face of these crimes that have been taking place in the city of Medellín, a team of professionals composed of forensic doctors, psychologists and investigators was delegated, who will be responsible for clarifying these murders and promoting the defense of the rights of the gay community.
According to Prosecutor Barbosa, to date, 50% of homicides in the LGBTIQ+ community have been clarified in the capital of Antioquia, which represented an increase compared to 2021, when the figure was 24%. Regarding the clarification of femicides in Medellin, the official said that 100% has been achieved, while, in cases of homicide of women, he said “we have achieved 60% (clarification).”
