Josefina Vázquez Mota, a senator for the National Action Party (PAN), came to the defense of the legislators of her bench who voted against the Electric Reform of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) from the statements promoted by Mario Delgado and Citlalli Hernández.

The former candidate for the presidency of the PAN in 2012 said she was concerned about the “disqualifications, persecutions, the allegations that are being made and which are typical of fascist and authoritarian regimes” that have been made by the national leader and the secretary general of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena).

“It seems to me that it is very important to stop along the way to exercise the politics that is dialogue, which is the agreement, and to listen to those who think differently. Those of us who think differently are neither enemies nor traitors of the country, we represent sectors of this society and we want to be heard and we want to be part of the construction of the agreements that the country requires of us,” Vázquez Mota declared from the Senate of the Republic.

He also called for “defending democracy and freedom of expression,” as well as advocating for the opposition legislators and legislators who voted out López Obrador's energy initiative.

“They expressed with their vote a vision of a country that does not necessarily coincide but is part of democracy and that expresses what many sectors of the public express and should be heard,” added Senator Panista.

Vázquez Mota's statements came after Mario Delgado and Citlalli Hernández announced that they would start a campaign to inform citizens who were the legislators who voted against, whom they called “traitors to the homeland”.

We want people to see the faces and names of traitors, so that we never forget who turned their backs on the people. In addition, we are going to ask our deputies to hold assemblies in which they inform Mexicans. Let them know that, if the Electricity Reform had been approved, the Constitution would already establish a cheaper tariff scheme for families, companies and for municipalities in public lighting,” explained Delgado Carrillo.

For his part, Hernández Mora commented that this campaign is “in defense of national sovereignty”, so public squares in the districts they represent will have “walls of ignominy” so that “it is known what was voted and who voted against”.

According to the Morenoites, the legislators of National Action who called “traitors to the country” are: Jorge Triana Tena, Diana Maria Teresa Lara Carreón, Wendy González Urrutia, Santiago Torreblanca, Guillermo Octavio Huerta Ling, Luis Alberto Mendoza Acevedo, Jorge Romero Herrera, Hector Saul Tellez Hernandez, Santiago Creel Miranda, Margarita Zavala Gomez del Campo, Mariana Gomez del Campo and Gabriel Quadri.

It was on April 17 that with 275 votes in favor, 223 against and zero abstentions, the initiative of the Chief Executive was scrapped. Given this, López Obrador shielded himself and sent to the Chamber of Deputies the reform of the Mining Law.

The reform to the Mira Law was approved in San Lazaro on April 19 and a day later it was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF). This initiative determines that the State is the only one that exploits, exploits and industrializes lithium.
