WhatsApp has two billion users in the world. It is one of the most used messaging services and as such, where more information is shared. It is a virtual space in which not only messages but also files of all kinds are sent, in particular multimedia such as photos and videos.
If the amount of available storage on your device reaches extremely low levels, a href="https://www.infobae.com/america/tecno/2022/04/20/encuestas-en-whatsapp-esta-seria-la-imagen-de-la-herramienta-de-meta/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"bWhatsApp may not work properly. If this happens, the platform may display a message asking the user to free up space to continue using the app.
To prevent the storage space from being completely occupied, you can use the file manager built into this platform. When you enter there, not only will you see the available space, but you will have access to a list with the amount of data that has been shared in each chat.
1. Open the WhatsApp application, click on the three dots in the upper right corner and go to Settings
2. Then click on Storage and data/Manage storage
There you will access a list in which the chats are ordered from highest to lowest according to the amount of material shared. It is possible to enter each conversation and delete all the shared files or just some.
In turn, there is a section where all items larger than 5 MB appear so that the user can review these heavy articles and, if they wish to delete them.
Another way to free up space
Another alternative to free up space on WhatsApp is to do it from each of the chats, on the home screen. Just tap on the conversation in question, go to the three dots at the top right and tap where it says Group Files. All the shared contents will be seen there, and they can be deleted one by one.
Another important point, to take care of the storage of the device, is to prevent all the files that arrive through WhatsApp from being downloaded to the cell phone.
To configure this, go to Settings/Chats and there disable the option that says Media Visibility. Because if this option is activated all photos and videos will be downloaded to the mobile phone, and they will be seen in the image gallery.
It is also possible to set this setting for certain chats in particular and not for all. This can be especially useful in group chats where heavy content is constantly sent.
To make use of the custom option, you have to go to the conversation in which you want to use this tool, click on the three points at the top margin, then on Group Info/Media Visibility and deactivate the option.
If you want to download the files but do not appear in the mobile gallery, you can create a.nomedia file in the WhatsApp image folder. This will hide all photos in the app.
How is it done?
1. Download a file explorer from the Google Play Store.
2. In the file explorer, go to Images/WhatsApp Images/
3. Create a file named .nomedia
If you want to see the photos again in the cellphone gallery, you simply have to delete the.nomedia file.
