The Spanish driver Carlos Sainz, third in the Formula 1 World Championship, and the Italian team Ferrari have reached an agreement to renew their relationship two more years until 2024, after a first season together, revealed today the Italian team, the most successful in the history of the premier category.
” The Ferrari team is pleased to announce that it has extended its agreement with Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard, who made his debut with Maranello's squad in the 2021 season, will thus be part of the team until the end of 2024,” the team said in a statement.
Sainz, 27, was “very happy” with the renewal after a “solid and constructive” season: “I have always said that there is no better Formula 1 team to race and, after more than a year with them, I can confirm that putting on this suit and representing this team is unique and incomparable,” he said.
The announcement of the renewal of the madrilenian, who has eight podiums in F1, took place on the eve of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, in Imola (Italy). “My first season at Maranello was solid and constructive, and the whole group progressed together. The result of all that work has been clearly seen so far this season,” said the driver, who is facing his eighth season in La Máxima and the second season with Cavallino Rampante.
At the same time, he added that he feels “reinforced by this renewed show of confidence.” “Now I can't wait to get in the car, to give my best to Ferrari and to give its fans a lot of joy. The F1-75 is proving to be a top of the line car, which can allow me to pursue my goals on the track, starting with my first victory in Formula 1″.
Mattia Binotto, CEO and team manager, praised Sainz's work and said: “In the time he has been with the team, he has shown himself to have the talent we expected from him, delivering impressive results and making the most of every opportunity.”
“I have said several times that I think we have the best pair of drivers in Formula 1,” the manager continued and added: “That's why, with every race that passes, it seemed a completely natural step to me to extend Carlos's contract, thus ensuring stability and continuity”
“Out of the car, he is a hard worker with an eye for the smallest detail, which has helped the whole group improve and progress. Together, we can aim for ambitious goals and I am sure that, together with Charles (Leclerc), he can play an important role in nurturing the Ferrari legend and will write new chapters in the history of our team,” he said.
With 20 Grands Prix still in this record season, and thanks to a car that, for now, is ahead of its competitors Red Bull and Mercedes in performance and reliability, the Spaniard should have opportunities. The Italian team, the most successful in history (16 constructors' titles and 15 drivers' titles), has not won the title of best team since 2008, nor has it again had a driver in the top of the sport since 2007 with Finnish Kimi Räikkönen.
