“The soul of the poet is never still: it needs seed to torment it. The heart demands those small daily tragedies that revive creation. In order not to stagnate, he needs new airs, new verve, new storms that envelop him and cause him to stumble up again and overcome himself”, was the description that Alonso Sánchez Baute used in Leandro to evoke the works of maestro Leandro Díaz and those heartbreaks and disappointments that were muse to compose icons as 'The Crowned Goddess'.

It is precisely that soul of a poet that he glimpses with the air of an accordion that is expected to meet again with thousands of spectators at the Vallenata Legend Festival, whose 55th edition will pay tribute to Jorge Oñate. The same tribute was to be paid to him in 2020, when the artist was alive; however, the pandemic forced a pause in which the death of the American Goldfinch occurred.

Now, two years later, Plaza Alfonso López once again brings together composers, accordioners, singers and thousands of spectators around accordion music in tribute to the one born in La Paz (Cesar) on March 31, 1949; and as with every major festival in Colombia, there is an event before in order to prepare fans about ELFestival that will bring together the best exponents of the genre born on the Colombian Caribbean Coast.

The piloneras, protagonists before the launch of the festival

The magic of the traditional pilonera parade will be felt again from the square of the world capital of vallenato from next Tuesday, April 26, the day before the launch in that same place. Both girls and young people signed up to welcome you to the most important event of vallenato music in the world.

This tour of the dancers will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the musicians' roundabout and will end at the Mothers Park. The next day, the parade of major piloneras stands out before the launch from the same time. The tour will also start at the same roundabout, but will end at Plaza Alfonso López, where you will find the inaugural concert.

It is also worth noting that for this edition of the festival 52 groups of older, 19 youth and 10 children's piloneras were signed up for a total of 81 groups that will be presented in the two days, thus forming one of the greatest cultural attractions in the land of Cacique Upar during the artistic encounter, which was rescued by the Vallenata Legend Festival Foundation, directed by 'La polla' Cecilia Monsalvo.

Admission to the square will be free, but if you are in another city, you will be able to appreciate the main show through streaming with a virtual ticket that can be purchased through the main page of TuBoleta. The cost of the pass is 25 thousand pesos.

What artists will be part of the inaugural concert?

The list is led by singers Ana del Castillo, Natalia Cuervelo and Margarita Doria. In addition, Jorge Oñate's children (José Jorge, Jorge Luis, Jorge Daniel and Jorge Antonio) will revive part of the musical work left by their father. Finally, the show will be closed by Poncho Zuleta and Cocha Molina with a show that will start at 11:15pm.
