A group of ejidatarios, identified as “Los Oaxacos”, violently closed the municipal hall of San Salvador Atenco on Wednesday afternoon and blocked the federal highway Texcoco-Lechería, in the State of Mexico.
According to the first reports, the inhabitants demanded the return of their land in the face of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's decree to convert the former Lake Texcoco into a Natural Protected Area (ANP). They assured that their land is cultivated and according to their economic possibilities, they sow them.
The unhappy people placed logs, stones and burned tires on that artery that connects communities in the northeastern Valley of Mexico to prevent vehicular traffic, which has caused mobility problems in that area of the metropolis.
In addition, they damaged the local government building and locked up several employees.
