Ministers from Central America and the Caribbean will attend next May a meeting convened by Panama and in which the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, will also participate to analyze the current geopolitical context and its impact on the region, the Panamanian Foreign Ministry reported Wednesday.
“This call, scheduled for May 3, is also attended by Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, a political bloc with which collaborative relations and biregional alliance are strengthened,” according to official information.
The objective of the meeting of ministers of Central America and the Caribbean is to “collegiate an ambitious regional proposal that addresses the economic and political impacts of the current geopolitical context, which also affect migratory movements”.
This announcement was made following the conclusion on Wednesday of a meeting of foreign and security ministers from about twenty countries in the Americas, in which US Secretary of State Antony Blinken participated, to finalize a regional strategy to address the growing irregular migration to North America.
The Foreign Minister of Panama, Erika Mouynes, highlighted the “unprecedented progress” achieved at the meeting, which agreed to create a working table to address the growing irregular migration flows on a continental level, with priority on issues such as the stabilization of migrant-receiving communities and addressing the causes of migration.
The work advanced at this meeting organized by Panama “will continue at the Summit of the Americas” next June in Los Angeles (USA), Blinken said.
“As a next step in the Panamanian diplomatic strategy, Foreign Minister Mouynes announced the next meeting, also in Panama, of the ministers of Central America and the Caribbean,” an official statement said, without giving further details about the guests.
