A huge controversy generated Gustavo Petro's decision to remove Piedad Córdoba from activities within the Historical Pact campaign, at least until the legal syndications currently existing against the former senator are resolved. The presidential candidate has been the target of criticism from different political fronts indicating that this decision was taken late as the coalition leader had known about these investigations for a long time.
Former President Andrés Pastrana, who recently met with the candidate of the Team for Colombia coalition, Federico Gutiérrez, was one of the political figures who referred to what happened within the Historical Pact and through his social networks he invited Gustavo Petro to the presidential elections that took place will take place on May 29.
“Out of respect for Colombia, its democracy and its people. The vast criminal conspiracy of Petro and his adlaters in prisons, with the worst corrupt and criminals, should be the reason for the immediate resignation of the Historical Pact candidate from his presidential aspiration,” the former president said through his Twitter account.

Like Andrés Pastrana, the main presidential candidates used their social networks to speak about the controversy that is currently going through the corridors of the Historical Pact. Federico Gutiérrez, Gustavo Petro's main opponent in the elections (according to the latest polls), asked him to tell Colombians the truth about the situation in Piedad Córdoba.
“Petro: is Piedad also going to turn out to be an entrapment? What will this gentleman know, if he is asking her to withdraw from the campaign? This “ethical” act that is actually cynical is not enough. Tell Colombians the truth, Gustavo,” said the candidate of the Team for Colombia on his social networks.
Sergio Fajardo, candidate of the Centro Esperanza coalition, criticized Gustavo Petro because the investigations against Piedad Córdoba have been known for several months, however, the leader of the Historical Pact decided to keep it on the list closed to the Senate by the coalition.

“Piedad Córdoba had been known for several months and Gustavo Petro decided to keep it on the closed list of the Historical Pact to the Senate. This is not the first time that Petro has delayed refusing controversial support, as Ivan and Samuel Moreno must remember,” said Sergio Fajardo.
In a statement that was published on her social networks, former Senator Piedad Córdoba referred to Gustavo Petro's request, which she accepted as it does not intend to “be used as an excuse by the enemies of democracy” for the elections that will take place in a few weeks.
He pointed out that, “I remain part of the Historical Pact, convinced that it is the option to remove the country from the current deep crisis and I invite all social sectors and citizens to feel identified with my trajectory and political action to continue indeclinable in support of the presidential formula of Gustavo Petro and France Marquez”.
