“Anatomy of a scandal”: will it have a second season?

The English miniseries that are among the most watched fictions on Netflix left the open ending for a new installment. We tell you what chances are there for us to have new episodes

Privilege gets on the bench of the accused... Based on the hit novel by Sara Vaughan, “Anatomy of a Scandal” is an enlightening and suspenseful series about privilege and sexual consent. (Netflix)

Anatomy of a Scandal (Anatomy of a Scandal) became one of the most watched series on Netflix a few days after its premiere. This is a 6-episode miniseries that tells the story of a politician of the English parliament named James Whitehouse (Rupert Friend), who after having an affair with Olivia Lytton (Naomi Scott), a co-worker, the woman accuses him of having abused her during an intimate encounter. The case comes to justice and Whitehouse faces prosecution on the stand in the presence of his wife Sophie Whitehouse (Sienna Miller), who attends to support him, despite her husband confessing to her infidelity. Thus, the idyllic and almost perfect relationship between James and Sophie falls apart when the man confesses that he cheated on her with Olivia.

The prosecutor in the case, Kate Woodcoft (Michelle Dockery) will put between the sword and the wall this man who is shown to be respectful of his peers, adored by his children and supported by his wife. But what is James hiding and what crime did he commit? This is the approach of this miniseries, which was conceived as an anthology, that is, that each season would cover different themes such as American Crime Story (the series created by Ryan Murphy) or the also British A Very English Scandal, which had its first season in 2018 focused on the case of Jeromy Thorpe ( Hugh Grant), and the second installment with a different case that will tell the scandalous divorce of Argyll vs. Argyll happened in 1963.

David E. Kelley (The Undoing and Big Little Lies) and Melissa James Gibson (House of Cards) are behind this project that works so well around the world. Anatomy of a Scandal, based on the novel of the same name by Sarah Vaughan, was conceived so that the story would begin and end with a single season. “I leave that to the experts, the writers, to see where the characters go,” Michelle Dockery told Today in reference to a second season.

(SPOILERS ATTENTION) The finale of the first season shows us James being driven by a police car after his wife told the truth about that colleague from Oxford University who died of unclear causes. Meanwhile, Sophie enjoys country life with the two children she had with Whitehouse and Kate is preparing for a new trial. “The series leaves a note of what is to come. It's the beginning of another story at the end. You see James being taken in a police car. Kate is about to start a new case. But it definitely seems that there is a momentum at the end that could lead to something more,” Dockery said in the same interview.

Until now, a continuation of the series has not been officially published or if we will have a second season that deals with another case. For now we have possible themes for a new installment, but it will have to fight against the concept of the anthology with which this project was conceived.
