The president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), denied that the actions taken by Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) against the opposition are part of a hate speech.

The president said that the qualifications of “traitors to the homeland” would be justified by the ideologies of the “popular movement” that it represents - this, equally mode, based on the argument that the setback to the Electricity Reform will continue to privilege foreign companies over domestic resources.

In this vein, he also justified the bulletining that the cherry bench undertook towards the deputies who voted against his energy initiative because, he assured, “prioritized the welfare of foreign companies over that of the people.”

“If they are popular representatives, why don't they know what they do or how they voted? Isn't defending Iberdrola or foreign companies against Mexicans treason? Let them tell me what it is,” he asked at his morning conference.
