In order to positively impact the communities that live in the vicinity of El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá, Avianca announced that it will have its own job bank aimed at people living in the airstrip's area of influence.

The initiative, called 'Opportunities Runway', is led by OPAIN, the concessionaire of El Dorado airport, and with it is sought that, through a job portal, the most vulnerable communities living in the towns that converge with the air terminal can access decent jobs.

“El Dorado airport is a generator of development for Bogotá and Colombia. It must also be so for all the communities that are its neighbors. Avianca joins this initiative by OPAIN to also open its doors to the human talent of these communities and make them part of the main airline in Colombia,” said Avianca's Director of Institutional Relations and Sustainability, Felipe Andrés Gómez.

According to the airline, through the page pistadeoporunidades.opain.co, residents of the towns of Engativá, Fontibón and the municipality of Funza will be able to register for free and access Avianca's job offers.

The platform, which has been enabled since Wednesday, April 20, will initially offer jobs for service agents and cabin crew, vacancies for which, according to Avianca, more than 100 candidates will be evaluated for each process.

“Avianca was part of the signatories of a commitment that aims to support communities. The launch event of the project was attended by local and municipal mayors, representatives of these populations and other actors who are part of this alliance”, concluded the airline.

In other news related to Avianca, on March 10, the airline announced that, after months of talks with its pilots, they reached an agreement so that 109 airmen who left the airline after the 2017 strikes, could return to work in the coming months.

“The reinstatement of our pilots is another step towards building an Avianca for all. We managed to start this dialogue to find an agreed and detrimental solution to this issue, doing what is right for the company, for its people and for the country, in order to look forward and grow sustainably with a work environment based on social dialogue,” said Avianca President and CEO Adrian Neuhauser.

During the announcement, which was attended by the Minister of Labour, Ángel Custodio Cabrera, and the president of the National Association of Entrepreneurs of Colombia (ANDI), Bruce Mac Master, it was reported that, of the 109 pilots who were offered the possibility of rejoining Avianca, only 104 accepted.

“We greatly welcome the agreement that Avianca and ACDAC have reached after three months of talks, which positively impacts the company's industrial relations culture, while enhancing social dialogue as a confidence-building element, improving the work environment, which clearly impacts social development and the increase in the productivity of the Company as well as in the welfare of workers and their families,” said the Minister of Labour.

The airline explained that airmen who would reintegrate would be able to fly with the company again at the end of December 2022, after completing their technical and human factors training phase, which began on January 15.
