Colombian coach Luis Fernando Suárez already knows the date on which he will define his future course for Qatar 2022, when he faces New Zealand for a direct quota at the World Cup event that will be held between December and November.

It should be noted that the winner of this duel between Costa Ricans and New Zealanders will form Group E together with Germany, Japan and Spain. Initially, the repechage matches had been budgeted for 13 or 14 June.

Through its official Twitter account, the New Zealand Football Confederation confirmed that the match against the Ticos will be played on June 14 in Doha, Qatar.

Unlike previous years, the World Cup play-offs will be played in a single match and not with two round trips as was done for Russia 2018.

In this way, Luis Fernando Suárez will have an opportunity to qualify for his third world cup after leading Ecuador in Germany 2006 and in Brazil 2014 the Honduran national team.

In Germany, Luis Fernando Suárez reached the quarterfinals after overcoming the group stage in which Costa Rica was precisely the one he beat, as did Poland and fell to the local team. In the second round he lost to England by the slightest difference with David Beckham's score.

For the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, he did not pass the first round where he was part of Group E with France, Ecuador and Switzerland. Those led by the former Atlético Nacional did not score any points.

This will be the second time that Costa Rica will play the repechage. In 2010, under the technical direction of Ricardo González, the Central Americans were left out of South Africa 2010 when they fell to the Uruguayan national team.

For their part, the oceanists hope to end the bad streak in this type of confrontation, since they have been falling twice in a row. For Brazil 2014 they lost to Mexico and four years ago they were overtaken by Peru by Ricardo Gareca.

The 'All Whites' came to this stage after overtaking Solomon Islands and hope to qualify for their third world championship after appearances in Spain 1982 and South Africa 2010, in which they did not pass the first group stage.

The representatives of Concacaf have played a total of four series in which they have won twice with an equal number of falls. The latest record is not at all encouraging after Honduras's defeat to Australia for Russia 2018.

Germany 2016: Trinidad and Tobado vs. Bahrain (2-1)

South Africa 2010: Uruguay vs. Costa Rica (2-1)

Brazil 2014: Mexico vs. New Zealand (9-3)

Rusia 2018: Australia vs. Honduras (3-1)

Luis Fernando Suárez knows that New Zealand is a complicated opponent and is clear about the danger that Newcastle striker Chris Wood, who is the top figure of the Oceania team, can generate.

Likewise, the former coach of the Junior of Barranquilla and Equidad stated at the time for Telemedellín that his mind is set on Costa Rica and not on the Colombia national team.
