Between tears, flowers, songs and cries of “Justice!” , this is how family, friends and daughter gave their last farewell to Kathia Kathy Alvarado, one of the 10 victims of femicide that Mexico records daily.

“Mom, I love you”, “I don't want to leave. My mom!” , his only daughter, who now joins the list of approximately 5,000 children orphaned by femicides that were counted only in the 2018-2020 period, according to Mexican deputy Karina Labastida Sotelo, cried heartbroken.

The 27-year-old girl was cruelly murdered by a subject, identified as Moisés Cano Bello, inside her home in the municipality of Contepec, in Michoacán, on 16 April, in full celebrations for Holy Week.

According to testimonies, the alleged feminicide waited for Kathy to arrive home, after celebrating Glory Saturday, to strangle her with a belt, which was still tied around her neck when she was discovered.

It was through a citizen complaint that the elements of the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) received the report of a person without life. As a result, agents and expert authorities of the Specialized Crime Scene Unit went to the home to cordon off the area and initiate the corresponding investigations.

Kathy's case has once again highlighted the negligence and impunity of the authorities for the protection of women, as the single mother had already filed a complaint against her alleged murderer for violence and harassment.

According to stories, Moisés had tried to abuse her and later murder her by showing resistance in June 2021, likewise, after the young woman returned from celebrating the “Ejido de Bravo” party with her friends.

However, the restraining appeal never proceeded because the alleged murderer did not receive the summons, but his family. This, coupled with the tedious bureaucratic system that currently leads several victims to truncate legal processes.

In this way, a continuous sense of fear was sown in Kathy, who nevertheless had to move on with her daily life and work to support her only daughter.

A few months later, and as a result of the inappropriate complaint, the subject returned home with the same objective that, unfortunately, he managed to complete and then flee the scene, leaving the body of his victim lying on the side of his bed.

In this way, Kathy was veiled and buried last April 19 in the same municipality: the attendees threw white and purple balloons, demanding justice for the young woman, as well as support for the culprit to be brought before the authorities.

Now, netizens have joined efforts to find the location of Moses, the alleged feminicide, whose name and photograph are already circulating on social media.

Figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System indicate that in the first two months of 2022 there were 155 victims of femicide, being the State of Mexico ( Edomex) the entity with the most cases (22).
