Former Paraguayan goalkeeper José Luis Chilavert said Tuesday that he is preparing to present a political party in his country, with which he did not rule out running for president in the 2023 elections.
The former footballer told Ñandutí radio that they are “finalizing everything” to publicize their political group, in which he hopes to have people not “contaminated” by corruption.
“At the latest after April, we would be pitching the match,” said Chilavert, who said he has been working for more than 10 years with a team of professionals.
The former goalkeeper, who last January presented his “undeclinable” resignation from the Colorado Party - the same as that of Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benitez -, declared himself independent.
“I don't have entrepreneurs who can really handle me and I also don't have bosses. I'm independent, I don't have godparents,” he said.
He declined to specify details about his possible presidential candidacy or confirm the name of his party, which he described as “young”.
“We have a date now, a deadline and there is very little left,” he replied when he was asked when he would officially announce his presidential aspiration.
In any case, it expressed its interest in the upcoming elections and its intention to combat corruption, impunity and provide life choices for future generations.
“If I get in full, it will be an alternative that the Paraguayan people have to be able to choose who will be the next president by 2023, ″ he anticipated.
In December 2020, Chilavert shared a photo of himself on Twitter with the phrase “Chila Presidente 2023 ″ and the slogan “Proud to be... Paraguayan! ”.
Paraguayans are called for general and departmental elections on April 30, 2023, when they will vote for president, legislators, governors and other authorities.
