On the afternoon of this Wednesday, April 20, an extraordinary assembly of the Major Division of Colombian Professional Football (Dimayor) was held to define the future professional of Cucuta Deportivo, a North Santander team that lost the sports recognition of the Ministry of Sport in November 2020.

Well, the sports authorities, in the presence of the presidents of the 36 professional clubs attached to Dimayor, determined that the club motilón will return to the competitions organized by the governing body of football in Colombia.

It should be noted that the new president of the rojinegro team is Eduardo Silva, despite the fact that the club itself remains an asset owned by José Augusto Cadena. However, the novelty is that now the club will be competing in the second division, and will probably be linked in June of this year to the BetPlay II 2022 Tournament.

Despite the administrative crisis and the transition from the liquidation process to the reorganization of the Cucuteño team, from the northern capital of Santander they are already celebrating the achievement of reviving the sports jousts week by week at the General Santander stadium in the border department.

In a vote made by the presidents of the other 35 clubs, it was decided that the future of the motilón team will be to start over and win the place in the first category, taking into account that their forced disengagement prevented them from finishing the 2020 tournaments (league and cup) after losing their last 3-0 commitments against America de Cali, Atlético Nacional and Deportes Tolima.

At the last assembly, the club leaders had decided to postpone the sports situation of Cucuta, due to the absence of an administrative body registered with the respective Chamber of Commerce of Cucuta Deportivo FC.”

However, the decision to reinstate Cucuta into B depended exclusively on the vote of the other 35 clubs that make up the division. Although the result of the vote in which Cucuta regained his participation in the Dimayor is unknown at the moment, President Eduardo Silva Meluk confirmed the news about 4:00 p.m. this Wednesday, April 20.

The leader confirmed to the newspaper La Opinión that the return of the team to the Colombian courts is indeed a reality, so he hopes to reap a long-term project that will consolidate the team again in the fight for titles and to give joy to the people of the city, who recognize in the football team a cultural heritage.

These were Silva's words in dialogue with La Opinión:

The leader revealed that former footballer Aquivaldo Mosquera will be the coach in charge of the team and that he hopes that with this precedent there will be strict, serious policies and a commitment to responsibility with creditors and fans:

The team led by Aquivaldo Mosquera has been training in Medellin since January 3 and has played unofficial friendly matches against other international teams. In fulfilling the objective of returning to the first category as soon as possible, the group of players and coaching staff must fight against the decisions of José Augusto Cadena, the club's largest shareholder.

Silva acknowledged that they tried to have talks with Macnelly Torres to return as a player to the professional roster of Cucuta, but that they have not specified anything at the moment to rejoin after his retirement. Regarding the president's expectations when working with Cadena, he hopes that better working practices will be adopted within the club than those seen in the past:
