In the run-up to Wednesday's day of the Russian invasion, number 56 since the conflict began, the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed that direct communications between the closed Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the Ukrainian nuclear regulator were restored.

As allied countries announced new aid to strengthen Kiev's defense, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to “immediately” end the war in Ukraine.

Stoltenberg held a telematic meeting with the leaders of the G7 and the European Union, who agreed to impose more sanctions on Moscow and maintain support for Kiev

Here is the minute by minute of the Russian Invasion of Ukraine (Ukrainian time, GMT+3):

4:45: The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that the situation in Mariupol, port city besieged by Russian troops, continues to be “the most serious possible”, and that they have not received a response from Russia for the exchange of civilians.

“The Russian Army is blocking any effort to organize humanitarian corridors and save our people. The fate of at least tens of thousands of Mariupol residents who were previously relocated to Russian-controlled territory is unknown,” he said in his daily speech.

Thus, the Ukrainian president emphasized that “unfortunately, there is no response from Russia to the offer of exchange, which could save civilians and defenders of Mariupol.”

In addition, he stressed that the intensity of the fire of Russian troops in the Kharkiv leadership, in the Donbas region and in the Dnipropetrovsk region “has increased considerably” as the country's “55th day of the defense of Ukraine against large-scale aggression” comes to an end.

4:03: At least three people were killed and five others were wounded, including a child, in a shelling in various localities of the Donetsk region, as reported by the head of the Donetsk regional military administration, Pavlo Kirilenko.

“On April 19, three more people were killed in the Russian bombing in the Donetsk region: in Kramatorsk, Avdiivka and Blagodatny. Five civilians were injured, including one child,” he said, according to the Unian news agency.

On the other hand, at least four people were killed and 14 civilians were injured after a bombing by Russian troops with multiple 'Hurricane' rocket launchers, as reported by the Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office in a message on its Telegram profile.

In addition, more than ten houses, garages and a supermarket suffered structural damage. Due to this event, the Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office announced an investigation to determine “violations of the laws and customs of war combined with premeditated murder”.

3.30: Brazilian Economy Minister Paulo Guedes said Tuesday that the country clearly condemns Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but is against the economic sanctions imposed on Moscow, demonstrating that it will not take a harsh stance against its partner BRICS: “We are against the war and against the economic consequences of war, what are sanctions”.

Speaking at an online event organized by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Guedes said that Russia should not be expelled from multilateral organizations, such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, which would “destroy bridges” and “stimulate economic war.”

02.32: In a new daily part, the British Ministry of Defense assured that “Russian bombardments and attacks on the Donbas line of control continue to increase, and Ukrainians repel numerous attempts to advance Russian forces”.

“Russia's ability to advance continues to be affected by the environmental, logistical and technical challenges that have plagued them so far, combined with the resilience of the highly motivated Ukrainian armed forces,” the portfolio added in a series of posts on its Twitter account.

Russia's inability to end the resistance in Mariupol and its indiscriminate attacks, which have harmed the resident civilian population, indicate that they are still not achieving their objectives as quickly as they would like,” the message concludes.

02.10: The Organization of American States (OAS) will assess Thursday whether it suspends Russia as a permanent observer following the invasion of Ukraine, the agency said in a statement on Tuesday.

A special session was convened at the request of Guatemala and Antigua and Barbuda, with the support of the United States, Colombia, Uruguay, Canada and Grenada to consider the draft resolution “Suspension of the status of the Russian Federation as permanent observer to the Organization of American States”.

01.49: The US Embassy in Ukraine denounced the existence of Russian “filtration camps”, an argument with which it compared today's events in Eastern Europe with what happened in Chechnya between the 90s and the early years of the 21st century.

“Putin's (Russian President Vladimir)'s playbook does not change. In the filtration camps in Chechnya, Russia beat, tortured and executed civilians. We support Ukraine,” the Embassy said on its Twitter profile.

01.15: Zelensky said that the Russian military is launching everything they have against Ukraine, with most of their forces ready for combat now concentrated in the east and just across the border in Russia.

“They have released almost everyone and everything that is capable of fighting against us against Ukraine,” he said in his late night video speech to the nation. And despite Russian claims that they only target military sites, he said they continue to attack residential areas and kill civilians.

The Russian army in this war is forever inscribed in world history as the most barbaric and inhumane army in the world,” Zelensky said.

00.40: The US Embassy in Ukraine has denounced the existence of Russian “filtration camps”, an argument with which it compared today's events in Eastern Europe with what happened in Chechnya between the 1990s and the early years of the 21st century.

00.12: Ukraine received fighter jets and spare parts to reinforce its aviation, said Pentagon spokesman John Kirby on Tuesday without specifying how many, what type of aircraft and the origin.

They have more fighter jets at their disposal today than they did two weeks ago,” the spokesman told the press. “Without going into detail about what other countries supply, I would say that they have received additional appliances and spare parts to increase their fleet,” he added.

He did not specify the type of aircraft supplied to the Ukrainian army, which has been ordering warplanes for weeks, but he implied that they are Russian-made.
