María Fernanda Méndez, better known as 'La Mafe Mendez', is a Colombian influencer who has millions of followers on social media and has become a standard-bearer of acceptance of the body as it is, due to an orphan disease she has been suffering from for several years: idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.

The young woman has never hesitated to show her audience the process she faces against this disorder that, according to her, developed in her body for no reason. He even mocks his sufferings and says that purple is already part of it.

However, he gave more details in a recent 'question and answer' dynamic that he carried out on his Instagram account, in which he also took the opportunity to clear some doubts from his most curious fans.

For example, to the question of whether you can do piercings 'La Mafe Mendez' explained that she can only do it when her platelets are leveled, although the wound healing may take longer than normal. Whereas when he has very low platelets he can give him an “eternal” hemorrhage and he has to let it close.

It is worth mentioning that the normal amount of platelets in a person is between 140,000 and 150,000, but the influencer usually has a level of 10,000.

On the other hand, María Fernanda reiterated that she developed this disease since she was just a child and without any apparent cause.

Finally, Méndez resolved the question of whether the purple ones that appear all over his body cause him pain and stated that 90% do cause him discomfort. And although he got used to it in a certain way, he also stated that his illness causes abdominal and joint pain.

The reactions were not long in coming and, as has become customary, friends and close to the youtuber congratulated her for facing the difficulties with total gallantry.

“You are an example of life”, “many of us would hide what happens to us, but you see it with pride, that is to applaud”, “thanks to your motivation I don't hide my illness either and I live well with it” and “keep going”; were some of the messages he received.

According to MayoClinic, the causes of purpura have not yet been defined, but it is thought that the initial inflammation could result from the immune system's inappropriate response to certain triggers.

Similarly, this same specialized portal ensures that the risk factors for this pathology could be:

-Age. The disease mainly affects children and young adults, and most cases occur in children between 2 and 6 years of age.

-Sex. Schoenlein Henoch purpura is slightly more common in men than in women.

-Race. White and Asian children are more likely to have Schoenlein Henoch purpura than black or African-American children.

Despite the serious symptoms that this condition could cause, María Fernanda remains positive and, although sometimes it is difficult for her, she continues to work to make more people accept themselves as they are.
