Police from the State of Mexico arrested five members of a gang of assailants operating inside the Mexibus Line 1 units, who intimidated their victims with a knife to force them to hand over their belongings.
During the afternoon of this Tuesday, 19, a user of the public transport system was assaulted inside an articulated Mexibus truck that was circulating on Avenida Central in Ecatepec at the height of the Alfredo del Mazo neighborhood and near the municipal Abastos Central.
After being threatened with a curved knife, and intimidated by various subjects who demanded that he hand over his belongings, the victim handed over his cell phone to the assailants, and later became aware of the presence of a patrol that was circulating on the same highway.
From inside the unit, the victim of the assault beckoned to the patrol to capture the attention of the uniformed, who warned the young man's call and then intercepted the unit to request the driver to stop the march.
The police entered the unit and answered the call of the young man, who pointed out two men and one woman for having stolen his cell phone, an accusation to which another passenger joined in stating that two other men had stripped him of cash.
After checking the accused subjects, the uniforms secured the cell phone and 350 pesos in cash stolen from a user, in addition to a knife approximately 20 centimeters long, which they would have used to intimidate one of their victims.
The subjects were transferred to the Public Prosecutor's Office located in downtown San Cristóbal, Ecatepec, where evidence of the assault was presented to be integrated into the investigation folder opened for the crime of robbery with violence under the aggravation of committing it on public transport.
On April 14, five members of the criminal gang “Los Marrufos” were arrested, who were engaged in the theft of ATMs in different municipalities of the State of Mexico and the sale of drugs in Ecatepec, an entity in which they had been identified as generators of violence.
In a statement, the Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM) reported that “the detention of these subjects was carried out in the streets of the Ejidal Emiliano Zapata neighborhood, municipality of Ecatepec and during the mobilization, they were found wrappers of grass with the characteristics of marijuana and a scale gramera, so the investigation was initiated for the fact that the law indicates as crimes against health”.
According to investigations conducted by the Mexican Public Prosecutor's Office, the subjects carried out robberies at Banco Azteca and Elektra ATMs in the municipalities of Coacalco, Ecatepec, Tecámac and Tlalnepantla.
A month earlier, on March 14, the Nezahualcoyotl Regional Prosecutor's Office announced that agents belonging to the agency arrested members of another criminal gang that was also engaged in the theft of ATMs in several municipalities near Mexico City.
The subjects' mode of operation would be based on filling the inside of the teller machines with gas with a hose connected to a hydrocarbon container, and subsequently provoking a spark through long cables that were activated from several meters, which led to the explosion of the machine, releasing the money contained therein.
