The former president of SaludCoop, Carlos Gustavo Palacino, was sentenced to ten years in prison for the crime of embezzlement for third-party appropriation. The Bogotá court also indicated in the ruling that the former official must pay a fine of 296 billion pesos for material damage caused by the crime; however, Palacino's lawyers assured on Wednesday that his client does not have that amount of money.

Hernán Gonzalo Jiménez, the former president's lawyer, also assured that the Prosecutor's Office did not provide any evidence to prove that Palacino committed the aforementioned crime. “Of course we are going to appeal the decision,” said the defense, noting that it has a subjective nature and is not supported because, “all the evidence supports that there is no criminal conduct on the part of the doctor,” he added.
