The art world and The Simpsons have been closely linked since star cameos were included in the history of the iconic yellow family. In the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the series created by Matt Groening, a figure who currently represents the young generation in the music industry was invited: Billie Eilish. At just 20 years old, the artist has five Grammys, won an Oscar for Best Original Song and, above all, will sing alongside Lisa Simpson.
The special, titled When Billie Eilish Met Lisa, will arrive this month on the Disney+ platform to join the catalog of animated short films derived from long-lived fiction. When Lisa is looking for a quiet place to practice the saxophone, she unexpectedly meets Billie and her brother, Finneas, who will invite her to their studio for a jazzy session that will remain in the memory of both of them forever.
In the faithful style of The Simpsons, not only will the image of the performer of “Happier Than Ever” be used, but she herself will voice her character. For the second time, producer and singer Finneas will also play a role as a voice actor, having given life to one of the members of 4*Town in Red, Pixar's latest film. Both normally work as a duo since the young singer launched her musical career.
This new short story belongs to a series created solely for the Disney+ catalog, as the entire series is available on Star+ for users in Latin America. The previous shorts were Star Wars themed (“Maggie Simpson in 'The Awakening of the Nap'”), the Loki series (“The Good One, the Bart and the Loki”) and the anniversary of the streaming service (“The Simpsons in Plus Anniversary”).
The voice of the centennial generation
Billie Eilish was born in Los Angeles, California, in 2001 and was raised in a family of artists. Her mother, Maggie Baird, is an actress, and her father, Patrick O'Connell, worked as a musician and screenwriter. He made his big rise to fame when he was 13 years old when his single “Ocean Eyes” went viral on the internet between 2015 and 2016. It was only in 2017 that he released his first EP entitled “Don't Smile at Me”, produced by his brother Finneas O'Connell.
In March 2019, she released her debut album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” , and this led to her becoming a winner of five Grammy Awards. Later, she was called up to compose, together with Finneas, the song that would accompany No Time to Die, the 25th film of the James Bond saga. At the last Oscar Awards gala, the brothers were recognized with the award for Best Original Song of a Film.
With a prominent career at the age of 20, Eilish is considered one of the musical artists of the moment and also a representative figure of the centennial generation. Through her music, she addresses topics such as sadness, anxiety, depression and hopelessness, which she has also discussed publicly as well as the relationship with her body and how she perceives herself.
When Billie Eilish met Lisa, it will premiere on April 22 on Disney+.
