They propose that a grandstand of the Pascual Guerrero stadium bears the name of Freddy Rincón

The football world continues to remember Freddy Eusebio Rincón after his unexpected departure on Wednesday, April 13. After several tributes that were paid to the 'Colossus of Buenaventura' on the different courts of the country, including in the classic America against Deportivo Cali, where Adrián Ramos and Teófilo Gutiérrez used the numbers on their backs 14 and 19 in tribute to the eternal striker.

Now it became known through a sports journalistic program a new recognition that they wish to advance to the 'Colossus of Bonaventura'. This is the program broadcast on the RCN radio channel entitled 'En La Jugada', where the journalist Francisco Vélez announced a request he made to the mayor of the 'branch of the heaven', Jorge Iván Ospina.

“I have made a request to Cali Mayor Jorge Iván Ospina that the eastern tribune of the Pascual Guerrero stadium be called Freddy Rincón,” said sports journalist 'Pacho' Vélez.

According to the communicator, Ospina would not have the absolute power to change the name to the tribune del Pascual, but he could submit the application to the Cali Council and the institution that owns the sports space, La Universidad del Valle, to consider renaming a stadium tribune in honour of the legendary player who gave so much joy to the people of Caleños and Colombians with his goals.

This was Freddy Rincón's last hours before his fatal accident in Cali

A few hours before his fatal accident in Cali (Valle del Cauca), that morning of Monday, April 11, Freddy Rincón was sharing at the home of the salsa singer, Harold Saa, along with other friends, such as Édison Ruiz, former mayor of Buenaventura.

This was confirmed a couple of days ago by Vladimir Mosquera, friend of the 'Colossus of Buenaventura', in dialogue with El País de Cali, and who was also at the home of the Cali artist on Sunday, April 10. “As we always do, we talk about football, we watched the matches of the Colombian tournament, and then we listened to salsa, because Freddy really liked this kind of music,” he said.

In addition, he expressed himself on two points that generated concern among the authorities. The first concerns whether Freddy's older brother, Tomás Alfonso, and owner of the van in which the accident occurred, was present at the meeting. And the second, whether or not the legend of the Colombian team was the one who was driving that vehicle.

Mosquera assured that he did not see the aforementioned relative from Rincón and that he is not sure how the 'Colossus' left the meeting: “When I arrived at the meeting there were several cars, I don't know which of them Freddy arrived in. Then, a little late, I said goodbye to everyone and couldn't see if he left afterwards and in which car he did it.”

Finally, Freddy's friend maintained that the former player was not overboard during the match: “There is a lot of speculation on that subject, there is more talk about it, but whoever knows him realizes that he is a great person. That night I was good, happy and very sober.” And he added that the night before (Saturday) they were also sharing in a bar in Cali with Hámilton Ricard.
