Several unions have been promoting a strike in the Cusco region after registering a surprising rise in various prices that affects their pockets. Not only the citizens of that area of the country have been affected, but also the tourists who have arrived there to know its attractions. The atmosphere has become complicated to the point that there has been a verbal confrontation between the Protestants and a Latin American tourist who encountered a closed road.
“For 40 km we have had to walk to get to Cusco”, a visitor who was accompanied by his family is heard obfuscated. In addition, the video shows one of the roads blocked with stones and guarded by strikers in the area. “Since the 5:30 a.m. we are waiting for, we had to walk out to come and invest so that Peru does well,” he added and then referred to those who prevented him from passing as lazy. The qualifier was the trigger for Protestants to show rejection of their presence.
“Walk, you are not in your country”, you hear a man who gradually approaches the family of tourists. When asked if the agency that sold them the ticket warned them of the demonstration, the man who gave the insult assured that he received instructions. “They told us that we had to leave before last night to be able to arrive today. It's a shame. They are scourges,” he said shouting in an altered way at the people who were guarding the passage of vehicles on the road.
The people of Cusco gathered to show their discomfort at the rise in prices for basic necessities came to withdraw the man by imitating his obfuscated attitude. “Delinquent!” , they said, but the man claimed not to be frightened by his presence. “I am Latin American. I'm not afraid of you. You have to work to have a Latin America standing, lazy. I work all day”, you hear at the end of the shared video.
EXTENDED UNEMPLOYMENT
A meeting between social and trade union organizations in Cusco decided to prolong the regional strike that had been stipulated for 48 hours until April 19. The agreement was reached by a majority and they decided not to meet the central government's request to stop the stoppage that is already affecting the tourism sector and others.
The president of the Council of Ministers Aníbal Torres is in the Cusco region, but the protesters consider his presence insufficient. The president of the Tupac Amaru Farmers' Federation of Cusco, Walter Torres, requested the presence of President Pedro Castillo if the government wants the protest is paralyzed.
The presence of Prime Minister Torres has allowed first agreements to be reached with the demonstrators, including the installation of a working table on 21 April and the holding of a decentralized Council of Ministers on 22 this month. However, Josué Marocho, president of the Cusco Regional Youth Assembly, pointed out that there is some mistrust of the central government due to the failure to comply with previous agreements.
So far, the presence of President Pedro Castillo in the region in question has not been confirmed. Faced with this or the possible suspension of the Council of Ministers in Cusco, Marocho said the protest would be radicalized. It should be recalled that in the most recent demonstration in Junín, the lives of five citizens, including a minor, were lost.
