Russian billionaire Oleg Tinkov whipped Russia's “absurd” war in Ukraine

The former banker, who lives abroad, assured that 90% of Russians are against the war, and claimed that the Russian is a “shitty army”. He was one of those sanctioned by the United Kingdom

Russian billionaire Oleg Tinkov on Tuesday lashed Russia's “absurd” war in Ukraine and called on Western countries to help end the “massacre”.

“Entrepreneurs try to save what is left of their assets... Of course, there are subnormals that draw the Z - symbol of the special military operation - but subnormals there are 10% in each country. 90% of Russians are AGAINST this war,” Tinkov, 54, said on Instagram, stressing that he sees “NO benefit from this absurd war” in which “innocent people (civilians) and soldiers die.”

He also ironized with the state of the Russian Army during the current “special military operation” by assuring that “waking up with a hangover, the generals realized that they have a crappy army”, adding: “And how can the army be good, if everything else in the country is crap immersed in nepotism and servility?”.

This is one of the strongest criticisms issued by a Russian businessman of the offensive against Ukraine on February 24. Other Russian oligarchs had criticized Russian intervention in Ukraine, but few have been as harsh as Tinkov, with the exception of Mikhail Khodorkovsky, who served ten years in prison for confronting the head of the Kremlin and now residing in Europe.

According to the tycoon, who left the post of general president of the Tinkoff bank in 2020, Kremlin officials are “in shock” because they and their children can no longer go on vacation to the Mediterranean, due to Western sanctions imposed on Russia due to the conflict in Ukraine.

Tinkov himself is subject to sanctions adopted by the British government.

For all these reasons, Tinkov called on the West in English to “give Mister Putin a clear way out to save his face and stop this massacre”.

“Please be more rational and humanitarian,” insisted the founder of Tinkoff Bank, the second largest credit card issuer in Russia.

For its part, Tinkoff Bank released a statement stating that it does not want to comment on Tinkov's “personal opinion” and recalls that the billionaire no longer makes decisions about the operations of Tinkoff branded companies.

“He is not an employee of Tinkoff, he hasn't been in Russia for a long time, and he has been dealing with his health problems for the past few years,” the statement says.
