Ricardo Monreal announced that the Senate will vote and approve AMLO's Mining Bill today

The president of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) said that the Senate could vote on Tuesday the Mining Law that was approved only this Monday in the Chamber of Deputies, although he acknowledged that it will be a long and lengthy discussion.

The leader of the Morena bench said that “the reform of the Mining Law will be voted on, to reserve the use of lithium for the nation” and stressed that “the parliamentary majority will support this proposal by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.”

The Mining Law initiative to reserve lithium exploitation exclusively for the Mexican government was sent by the head of the executive branch after the electricity reform was scrapped in San Lázaro. This new initiative was voted and approved on fast track on Monday morning in the lower house and in the afternoon the minutes reached the Senate of the Republic.

The opposition senators indicated that they will abstain from voting on this opinion and argued that it is a whim of the head of the executive since the Constitution already provides in article 27 that lithium is owned by the nation, for this reason they accused that the legislators of the Morena, PVEM, PT and PES bank will be supporting a project of law that they don't even know well.
