Rainer Torres, former cream footballer, made harsh comments about the University club and alluded to rival Alianza Lima in a peculiar comparison after the 4-1 defeat of the 'merengue' team in the Peruvian football classic at the Monumental de Ate stadium last Sunday 17 of April.
The representative of the 'Embajadur Crema' project, an organization in favor of the University club, compared the current situation of the merengue team with the past of its historic contender. In addition, he highlighted the period between 1978 and 1997 in which the blue and whites did not win titles and that defeat is becoming commonplace.
“Something worries me, in all this that has happened and was commented by Miguel Torres (former Universitario player), the fan of the 'U' is getting used to the novel, which was formerly those in front (Alianza Lima) when they started to lose, when the 18 years passed that those from the front did not 'champion' make a novel and a half. We're getting used to that. We have become accustomed to losing,” Rainer Torres said on the television program 'Embajadur Crema TV'.
Torres added that excuses about the club's situation are commonplace that encompasses different moments of University who has not achieved a degree for eight years (2013).
“We have all become fans of the 'U' because it was a winning team. Today we are already getting used to losing and when that happens (the excuse) is that debts, what happened this or that, that Gremco than the administrator, that here than there. I think it's directed, they're taking us and that's angry,” added Torres.
The former Sporting Cristal player rejected the publications of the lawyer of the University club, Franco Velazco, after the defeat in the classic and called the setback against Alianza Lima at home a “shame and stain”.
“Now I see Velazco launch a tweet (Franco Velazco lawyer at Universitario) and it is an insult to the fan's intelligence. After losing 4-1 and that way, instead of taking responsibility, because it is a shame and a stain that will remain in the club, they send a tweet that is an insult to everyone's intelligence”, he concluded.
The cream lawyer, Franco Velazco, through his Twitter account, shared his opinion on the post-defeat situation of the classic and the actions to be taken, which was subsequently executed through the departure of Uruguayan coach Álvaro Gutiérrez.
“CLASSIC POST. Don't forget that:
1. We are in a process of recovering the club institutionally, sports results depend on serious and responsible economic management.
2. 10 years of crisis are being resolved in these first 7 months with clear accounts and audits.
3. Recovering sports identity does not only depend on a good DT and/or squad but also on the minor divisions, home-trained players. Today we are also in that recovery process that in the 'U' will be long due to so much irregularity detected.
4. We are recovering our presence at the leadership and management levels, lost by so many scoundrels who claimed the presidency and/or leadership of the club. The 'U' has an obligation to bring capacity and experience to Peruvian football.”
“WHAT'S NEXT:
5. Corrective measures in sports already taken at this time of day that will be officially informed shortly.
6. To what was already reported weeks ago by the club, after balancing the box and budget (order!) , the sports manager is appointed in June,” Franco Velazco quoted in a tweet thread.
Then he thanked Universitario fans for their massive attendance at Monumental: “Thank you to everyone who went to the stadium. My respects to North, East, West and South. We are all fans to the death of the 'U', and yes, the blood is and will be in the eye, but football will give us a revenge soon, while we continue on the plan and path laid out”.
The member of the temporary administration of Universitario responded indirectly to a former Alianza Lima player: “Remind the former archer that his last match and professional farewell (didn't he?) he lost the category on a court and that his little team did not even call him to wash his face the following year; and that the year is not over yet, as if it happened with his career. And give it 'U'! ”.
