Businessman Mario Hernández has been another public figure who has made his political position clear ahead of the presidential elections on May 29, 2022. On this occasion, he did not hide his concern about the possible arrival of Gustavo Petro at the Casa de Nariño and through Twitter he referred to this situation.
Gustavo Petro, together with Francia Márquez, their vice-presidential formula in these elections, signed on Monday, April 18, an agreement not to expropriate anyone in the country if elected by citizens as the successor of Iván Duque. This event generated all kinds of comments and criticism on social media.
The candidate of the Historical Pact affirmed that, “I pledge to the people that, respecting the Constitution and the law, there will be no act of expropriation against any property of Colombians in my government. My signature is stamped on a public document, failing to comply with it would mean a crime.”

Francia Márquez referred to this and on her social networks noted that, “before notary 17, we signed a document, in which we commit ourselves to Colombia that we will NOT EXPROPRIATE ANYONE”. However, Mario Hernández did not trust himself and despite this he showed his concern in the event that Gustavo Petro is elected president of Colombia.
“But it will raise taxes, property taxes and pension funds etc. (...) Let him sign that he will maintain democracy and that he will not raise taxes, because we will be less competitive by increasing tariffs, everything would be more expensive and we would have to go back to Miami to buy tennis,” said Mario Hernández on his Twitter account.
Businessman Mario Hernández has been very active on his social networks supporting the Team's candidate for Colombia and some of his posts have even generated criticism. A few days ago he published a video showing five 'caddies' (golfers' assistants) who support Federico Gutiérrez. “Look, President, all these golf caddies here in Puerto Peña Lisa.”

In the video, Hernandez is heard saying: “Who are Chinese going to vote for?” to which they replied “For Fico!” , this while holding some bags of the presidential candidate's election campaign. He then asked him a new question, “And why are they going to vote for Fico?” and these 'caddies' replied, “for change” and the Colombian businessman adds, “... So that there is work, there is freedom, there is democracy. Let's all go ahead. Congratulations. Chao”.
Many people on social media criticized Mario Hernández for this video, some claim that it is a montage and that the businessman was the one who asked them to do this to improve the image of candidate Federico Gutiérrez.
In an interview with Caracol Radio, Mario Hernández defended himself against criticism and said that, “I give you the phones, I invite all of you, anyone you want, to talk to each one [of the caddies]. I am exercising the right of any Colombian: to express my opinion and vote for the best. I have been supporting 'Fico' from the start and I have been very clear: I am thinking about the community.”
