Eloy Espinosa-Saldaña, a judge of the Constitutional Court, announced that he needs blood donors for his prompt surgical intervention. As is known, the lawyer is a candidate for a lung transplant after the pulmonary fibrosis he suffers from.

Through his Facebook account, Espinosa-Saldaña appealed to all people who with good will can help him in these crucial moments of his health.

“I never liked asking for favors, but now it's inevitable. Looks like the opportunity for my lung transplant is approaching. However, for the decisive moment, the Almenara Hospital, the only one that does these transplants in Peru, asks me for at least 20 donors of RH-negative group 0 blood, and 4 people to remove platelets (there is no matter what blood type),” Espinosa-Saldaña said on his Facebook account.

It is worth mentioning that the constitutional judge said in October 2021, that the pulmonary fibrosis he suffers from had worsened, so “the only way out to treat and reverse it is a transplant”.

“I had to go into an emergency hospital to do all the tests that this claims. Well, now there will be a medical meeting at the Almenara (Guillermo National Hospital), which is the only place in the country where lung transplants are performed,” the magistrate said at the time in conversation with TV Peru.

During this dialogue, Judge Eloy Espinosa-Saldaña reflected and regretted that Peru is one of the countries with the lowest organ donation rate.

“Unlike a conviction that exists in other countries to donate or the obligation in other countries to do so, we have neither the good nor the conviction given by law. So, there is a double job for the people we need (organ transplantation),” he said.

“I/A COURT GAVE THE TC A PULL ON THE EARS AFTER RULING IN FAVOR OF FUJIMORI

A few weeks ago, upon the release of the TC's ruling on the release of former president Alberto Fujimori, Judge Espinosa-Saldaña ruled on the matter and maintained his position, assuring that this decision was a “pull on the ear” towards him organism.

“We have the result where, in fact, it is at the international level, a jerk on the ear of the Tribunal for not understanding that this film did not have to enter and because it did not understand that the supervision is done by the Inter-American Court, with the support of the Supreme Court, because it is a former president of the Republic. In this matter, the Tribunal looks and applauds, it has nothing else to do,” he said for Exitosa radio.

In that case, he assured that he respects the position and vote taken by his colleagues in the case of releasing the former president of Peru.

“Sometimes, as we have talked about many times, in a collegiate, not always the one who has the best reasons has the votes. So, I respect what happened with my teammates but it was a chronicle of an announced performance. This was going to be the case,” he said.

On the other hand, the judge of the Constitutional Court indicated that he and Marianella Ledesma raised a previous issue to prevent habeas corpus from being decided in favor of the pardon of former President Alberto Fujimori.

“Judge Ledesma and I raised a previous issue to accumulate files and wait, but that previous question was not approved. When we raised it, we did it with the best intention, but it was not accepted,” he told TV Peru in statements.

“This case is under the supervision of the Inter-American Court and from yesterday until May 4, the Inter-American Court is meeting in permanent session and one of the cases to be monitored is the Barrios Altos Case, one of the cases for which Fujimori was denied pardon,” warned the magistrate.
