The defamation trial facing Johnny Depp and Amber Heard counted at the beginning of its second week of oral arguments with the testimony of the actor's doctor, who confirmed that he located Depp's finger fragment between blood and broken glass.

The court in Fairfax, Virginia, where the litigation is taking place, projected a recorded statement in which the doctor, David Kipper, claimed that the location where the piece of finger that Depp lost in March 2015 appeared seemed like the scene after an intense fight.

The actor's lawyers had previously claimed that he lost part of his finger after Heard threw several glass bottles at him during a violent fight at the Australian residence where the couple lived while he was filming “Pirates of the Caribbean”.

Both Depp and Heard were present in court.

The versions of what happened in 2015 had different versions. Heard's defense argued that Depp hit her, suffocated her, and sexually assaulted her with a bottle.

According to the doctor, in addition to crystals there was “blood all over the house”, although, at the time, Depp insisted that he lost his finger when he cut himself with a knife.

After searching the entire house, which was destroyed, the actor's chef located Depp's fingertip in the kitchen area. The actor underwent reconstruction surgery.

The doctor said Depp said he lost it when he cut himself with a knife. She then assured that Heard was there and seemed upset with the situation.

Kipper also gave other details of the actor's treatment, who according to him was not willing to follow the guidelines to overcome his drug addiction.

The doctor also spoke about Depp's problems with drug addiction and that the constant fights with Heard, coupled with the bouts of anger he had, ended up saturating the patience of the professional and nurse Debbie Lloyd.

A note presented at the trial by Lloyd, stated that “the patient was asked to stay away from his wife, because the relationship is toxic”.

In another recorded statement, the nurse retrieved notes from her consultations with Depp in which she noted that “the patient has discussed feelings of anger and sadness about their relationship as a couple.”

Last week, the former couple's therapist, Laurel Anderson, claimed that in the relationship there was “mutual abuse” and that she saw signs of violence from both of them.

The actor asks his former partner for 50 million dollars in damages.

For his part, Heard has responded with a countersuit alleging that Depp has launched a smear campaign against him and claims $100 million.

It is the first time that the former couple has faced each other to justice: in the 2020 trial held in London, and which Depp lost, the actress came as a witness, since the accusation was against the British newspaper The Sun for an article that described the actor as “wife abuser”.

After losing the trial that began with The Sun, the actor went directly against his ex-wife for an article he wrote in The Washington Post that, he argues, although he doesn't name him implicitly speaks of him.

The actor's legal team argues that it contains a “clear implication that Depp is a domestic abuser,” what they say is “categorically and provably false.”

Depp acknowledges having used drugs and alcohol, but insists that he never hit a woman. He is backed by his former partners Vanessa Paradis and Winona Ryder.
