They have been days of heavy rain in different parts of the country. Dozens of families have been affected, in recent weeks, by floods and collapses due to those weather conditions. Ideam (Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies), in one of its most recent reports, predicted that the days ahead will be accompanied by precipitation with electrical activity, hailstorms and gales.
“Cloudiness and moderate to heavy rainfall are expected to increase in the Pacific, Caribbean, Andean, Orinoquia and Amazonia regions, the strongest during the afternoon, night and early morning, and accompanied by electrical activity in times of heavy rain, hailstorms and/or gales, gradually decreasing towards Thursday 21,” said the entity, through a communiqué addressed to the community.
As highlighted by that entity, this is due to the abundant cloud cover that now rests on the country. This also signals the start of the first season with the highest rainfall in 2022. Likewise, it is added that the country's climate is being affected by humidity from the Brazilian Amazon. The Institute stressed that the Pacific maritime zone will be the one that will suffer the most changes in its environment, in fact, for this reason, an orange alert has already been issued to alert the community and the authorities.
La Sabana de Bogotá, IDEAM predicts, will have rains, between light and heavy, in several of its sectors. Rainfall is expected to occur in the afternoon and evening hours. As far as heavy rainfall is concerned, the Institute says, rain is likely to be accompanied by electrical activity.
The Andean region will have partial to mostly cloudy skies. In addition, precipitation is expected with moderate and strong intensities, particularly in the afternoon, night and early morning hours. These changes in climate will be reflected over large areas of Antioquia, Santanderes, Boyacá, Cundinamarca, Caldas, Risaralda, Quindio, west and south of Huila and Tolima. As in Bogotá's Savannah, there is a high probability of electrical activity in times of heavy rain.
“Dense cloud cores for the department of Cundinamarca, ingress of moisture from the southwest, moderate to heavy rains are estimated to persist in the west, center and east, as well as, in the city of Bogotá, during the night and early morning,” Ideam explained on its social networks.
The picture for the San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina Archipelago is less radical. The area is expected to have a light to partly cloudy sky with a predominance of dry conditions. Between next Wednesdays and Thursdays, the likelihood of rain in the archipelago increases.
As for the Caribbean region, a sky between partial and mostly covered is expected. It is estimated that there will be moderate and heavy rainfall, however, the most intense rainfall can be seen south of Bolivar, north, south and west of Cesar, and south of Magdalena. There is a latent possibility of isolated thunderstorms.
A slightly more complex situation is expected for the Pacific region. It is expected that there will be the highest volume of precipitation, abundant cloudiness and a high probability of electric shock. The rains are calculated for the evenings, nights and early hours. As for this region, the most affected areas would be Chocó, Valle del Cauca, Cauca and Nariño.
The Orinoquia and the Amazon will have an increase in cloudiness and moderate to heavy rainfall, says Ideam. These changes in climate would be reflected especially in the piedmont of Meta and south and west of Vichada, as well as in Caquetá, Putumayo and Amazonas. For rains there is a high probability of electrical activity.
