On April 13, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) reported that Mexico would use the COVAX mechanism of the United Nations (UN) to access biological products with which it is planned to vaccinate children without comorbidities in May.

However, the wait could be prolonged after the statement of the Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell, where he assured that, despite having an investment of 78 million dollars, the mechanism has not yet offered pediatric vaccines to be purchased and shipped.

For that reason, the epidemiologist assured that the Republic has already started its own explorations for the purchase of the substance with other suppliers. In this vein, he noted that the administration directly contacted the Pfizer laboratory, which was open to supply batches of the substance.

“I could eventually deliver them in the second quarter of 2022, obviously after the negotiation of a contract,” he predicted.
