The Colombian Football Federation confirmed that it reached a mutual agreement with coach Reinaldo Rueda to finish his process at the helm of the Colombian National Team. The Colombian coach, who replaced Portuguese Carlos Queiroz after the debacle in Quito in the Qualifiers, led the Tricolor to third place in the Copa América, but did not meet the goal of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“The Executive Committee of the Colombian Football Federation at its regular meeting held today, agreed with Professor Reinaldo Rueda to disassociate himself from the position of technical director of the Colombian Men's Senior National Team, as well as its coaching staff,” said the Colombian Football Federation. -
Now the Colombia National Team will begin a process again, as happened after the 2018 World Cup in Russia where coach José Néstor Pékerman left to be the coach of the national team. There are many names that sound and that are already linked as candidates to lead the national team, with the aim of improving what has been done in the last four years.
In an interview with Caracol Radio '6AM Hoy for Hoy', the president of the Colombian Football Federation, Ramón Jesurún, referred to the search for the new coach of the Colombian National Team and stated that, “we cannot know that. The idea is as soon as possible, but it must be done calmly. Whatever the name, it will arouse controversy, but what we are trying from today is the search for the person we consider ideal for this process.”
Although in recent weeks there were talks about two possible candidates such as Ricardo Gareca, current coach of the Peruvian national team and Gustavo Alfaro, coach of the Ecuadorian national team, the president ruled them out and left them out of the list of possible coaches of the Tricolor, this because they have current contracts with their respective teams, one will compete in the World Cup and the other will play the repechage.
“We don't have names. In the case of Alfaro, I want to be clear: it is totally false. He has his contract with a Federation, just like Ricardo Gareca. That rumor is absolutely false. There are no names or candidates, although there are 30,000 calls from businessmen who have the ideal technician for us,” he said on the Caracol Radio program. There are many names that begin to ring, these are some of them.
