Carlos Antonio Velez's strong sentence after Reinaldo Rueda's departure: “You should not leave alone”

The sports journalist reiterated that there are several players who, in his opinion, should not return to the Colombia team after the elimination of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar

After the Colombian team was eliminated from the World Cup in Qatar, it was only a matter of time before Reinaldo Rueda left the team's technical management. This Monday, the Colombian Football Federation (FCF) finally confirmed the dismissal of the coach through an official statement.

“The Executive Committee of the Colombian Football Federation, at its regular meeting held today (Monday, April 18), agreed with Professor Reinaldo Rueda to disassociate himself from the position of technical director of the Colombian Men's Senior Team,” the document explained.

The entity valued the project developed by the Caleño strategist and said that it will begin to analyze his successor for the near future: “We express to Professor Rueda and his collaborators our sincere wishes for success in their career and in their personal projects, not without first expressing, also, our recognition for their dedication and work”.

Confirmed the departure of the coach, journalist Carlos Antonio Vélez spoke on his Twitter account and said that another important group of players should come out with him for the following process: “Officially the Rueda cycle with Colombia National Team ended... but he should not leave alone... there are at least 10 players who can never return...”.

Although this time the communicator did not give specific names, in the past he had made it clear several football players who, for him, must leave the national team. “Several cycles were closed and not only that of Reinaldo Rueda, but also that of many others who look like former players,” Vélez said in a broadcast of the program 'Planeta Fútbol' on Antena 2.

“For me the cycle of Cuadrado, Falcao, James Rodríguez, Muriel, Davinson Sánchez, Tesillo ended, unless they put him in the center, Roger Martínez, Lerma, the unnamable Sebastián Villa, who fortunately have not called him but you have to close the blind because with what he did, either; Barrios and Fabra,” he said.

He concluded by explaining what the profile of the new coach of the 'tricolor' should be: “We started from scratch with a modern coach, who has different ideas and who has a concept of what is being played today in the world. We can't continue with that tiring walk, that jogging, that weigh the buttocks and bring players by name, commitment or because they have a lot of followers on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.”

A few weeks ago, the communicator had revealed some names that could take over the Colombian team thinking of qualifying for the Canada/US/Mexico 2026 World Cup. In an interview with Semana magazine, he said that “I like Ricardo Gareca and Tité, and both will leave Peru and Brazil (respectively)”.

They are not guys sleeping there, with the face of a fossil, because that is very screwed up, that is also transmitted to the players,” he said,

Similarly, Carlos Antonio put other national technicians on the radar. One of them was Alberto Gamero, current coach of Millonarios, “so many wallow, I love that they do”, as he indicated on his radio space on Antena 2. And another option was Luis Fernando Suárez, who, at the helm of Costa Rica, will play the playoff against New Zealand next June.

Since here there is an absolute disregard for the local and here there is a love for foreign lies, then I know that it is difficult for them to digest that name and that surname, but I think the executories support it,” he concluded.

Other coaches that have sounded in recent times have been Argentineans Marcelo Bielsa, who left the leadership of Leeds United in England, and Gustavo Alfaro, who is in charge of the Ecuadorian national team.
