With its continuity guaranteed from the day of its premiere -for screenplay reasons-, but confirmed some time later, Muñeca Rusa was a comedy that conquered the public since day one. Three years later, the second season is nowhere near making its debut on Netflix. The comedy of temporary loops premieres on April 20 and will feature the return of Natasha Lyonne.
In this first preview of the second season, Russian Doll upped the ante and took its protagonists on a new journey through a time portal. For those who didn't see the series, it's about Nadia Vulvokov (Lyonne), a woman who dies and gets caught in a time loop in which she repeats herself over and over again on the same day, until she gets tired. Finally, she learns that she is not the only one in the loop and together with Alan (Charlie Barnett) they will look for a way out.
The official synopsis for the second season reads as follows: “Set four years after Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) and Alan (Charlie Barnett) escaped the mortality time loop together, the second season of Russian Doll will continue to explore existential themes through an often humorous lens and science fiction. Discovering a fate even worse than endless death, this season finds Nadia and Alan delving into their past through an unexpected time portal located in one of the most notorious places in Manhattan. At first, they experience this as an ever-expanding intergenerational adventure, spanning an era, but soon they discover that this extraordinary event could be more than they expected and, together, they must look for a way out.”
The story will continue to explore philosophical and existentialist themes of this woman through time and from humor with science fiction as the conduit to tell the second season of Russian Doll. This time, an interdimensional portal located in one of the best-known locations in New York and two new characters. Together they must once again solve the riddle about what time travel means, their relationship with them and how they will do for them or enjoy it in the meantime.
The fiction was created by Natasha Lyonne herself along with Leslie Headland and Amy Poehler, but this time they promise to show even more surreal situations than those in the first installment and generate more comedy moments. Greta Lee, Rebecca Henderson and Elizabeth Ashley will also be back in this second installment, while the new cast comes with one of the recognizable faces of the comedy of recent years: Annie Murphy, who found popularity thanks to the multi-award-winning Schitt's Creek, joins the cast.
