The Franciscan Terrace in the Historic Center of Mexico City, located on Calle de Jesús María number 42, announced for this Sunday, April 17, a concert by the bands Maskatesta, Melodycans, Jamaica Sonora, Gallo Rojo and Skapienz, which ended in violence.
Through social networks, people who gathered at the event alerted the detonation of a firearm inside the premises of the so-called Terrace, in addition to a previous internal fight, and one after it on the outskirts of the building.
One of the members of the band Maskatesta identified as “Kabula” was reportedly injured, as well as a supposed companion of the band, who, according to the photographs and videos circulated on social networks, were seriously injured as a result of the beatings.
According to the authorities, they went to the Central Sector at approximately 9:30 p.m. after receiving the radio alert. The event was labeled as a “collective brawl inside the bar”. When they found people running, trying to escape, they could see two people injured by beatings.
It was 31-year-old Jesús Iván Gómez Rojas with a brain contusion, transferred to the Gregorio Salinas Hospital, as well as 40-year-old Israel Villanueva Mares (Kabula), who was transferred to the hospital 1 de Octubre with a diagnosis of Polycontundido.
However, they didn't mention anything about the alleged bullet. According to videos posted on social networks, members of the band Melodycans played a song when an apparent gunshot sound is heard, they stop and run to the back of the stage, in a hurry.
In an interview with Infobae Mexico, one of the attendees at La Terraza reported that from the beginning of the event, a tense atmosphere could be felt with the people responsible for the security of the event.
“The security people put their hands in the chavas' bag, the men's handbags and wallets, but some other people let them pass more quietly. So far there was no quarrel,” he said.
On the other hand, he said that once the event started, several aggressive people were detected looking to start a fight, but the security members immediately removed them from the premises to calm the mood among the public.
The panic among the attendees began once the bullet sounded inside the Terrace, probably among the public and, according to the details given to this media by the witness, it could have been shot in the air, since there were no gunshot wounds.
Although many tried to flee the premises quickly, they were stopped by the entertainment center's own security people. Those who were on the stairs retreated to one of the corners of it where they began to document the events with their cell phones.
It was then that a subject approached, described by the assistant as a man from “Hood, sweatshirt, mask and black lenses”, so his identity could not be fully appreciated. The latter threatened that they should put away their mobile phones or they would be removed immediately.
“We were scared because we didn't know if they were security people or a commando,” the interviewee told Infobae Mexico.
About the member of the gang beaten outside the Franciscan Terrace, he warned that they saw the man identified as “Kabula” leave, who headed towards the exit stairs, but after the alleged detonation of a firearm, he ended up beaten on the sidewalk.
“At that moment we heard that from the terrace he was shouting down, 'let it go, let it go. ' Immediately after that, the security guy comes and tells us to stop recording,” said the contact, who proceeded to withdraw from the scene, observing a violent scene in the street.
In addition, he also confirmed that the police immediately arrived at the scene, where they went to the back of the stage and at least 20 people were put up with their hands up and proceeded to a review; afterwards, the officers asked the attendees to leave the area.
On the part of the Franciscan Terrace, he assured contact, there was no attention, nor were any instructions given on the situation, until about 15 agents arrived in the area of the incident, who issued instructions to leave the building.
The organization published a statement on its official social networks in which they said “against all acts of violence”, and said that “what happened at today's event is alien to the Franciscan Terrace”.
Before deleting it from social media, they published that the issue would be discussed with the appropriate authorities to follow up on it, in addition to emphasizing that they manage a “family environment”.
