The Ministry of Security, Coexistence and Justice of Bogotá reminded from this Monday, April 18, new measures will begin to apply for motorcyclists and companions, who must wear, on the outer back of the helmet, on a dark background and in white print, the number of the vehicle's license plate. Reflective letters and numbers must be in arial-type letters, with a size of 3.5 centimeters high and a width of one centimeter, for each character.
Motorcyclists and their companions must also wear the vehicle license plate number in a visible place on their clothing, although according to the District's publication, this measure is not mandatory. In this case, each of the letters and numbers, in reflective material, must be 9 centimeters high by 4 wide.
“Drivers of motorcycle-type motor vehicles and their companions, in order to facilitate their full identification, must have printed on the outer back of their safety helmets, on a dark background and white letter and without any element or design that impedes or obstructs their visibility, the number of the license plate assigned to the vehicle, in reflective letters and numbers, arial-type, whose size shall be 3.5 centimeters high and a line width of 1 centimeter”, indicates the Decree.
Also, this Thursday, April 21, the restriction of the male escort on a motorcycle will apply; the measure will apply on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from 7:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. The measure excludes women, law enforcement, relief and health agencies; private security personnel; transportation of people with disabilities, insurers and chosen driver.
“The most important thing is that here we have only one common purpose, which is to take care of our families, to take care of Bogotá from that criminal and terrorist threat that we are facing. We have reached additional agreements to those we had already announced. Two measures in particular such as: keeping the license plate of the motorcycles visible to any authority or camera in the city, and including one more exception to the companion, that is to say that there will be only restriction to man barbecue. There will be no restriction if the companion is a woman,” explained Claudia López, mayor of Bogotá.
He added that “thanks to the motorcycle organizations for their willingness to cooperate for the safety of Bogotá's families. We talked, we arranged and at this time we told the citizens the conclusions of our meeting.”
The president recalled once again that, with the aim of improving pedagogy on these security and mobility measures in Bogotá, it did not begin to apply since Monday, April 11, as initially stated, but will apply from next April 21.
“So that we all have more time to explain, to do pedagogy, to make changes to our routines, schedules, and to make identification in the terms that we have agreed. Once again I want to thank all the motorcyclists, traders, citizens, families, all the people of Bogota, who have always known that it is united and with solidarity how best we can take care of ourselves,” said the president.
