PREVENTING SEXUAL VIOLENCE
As you remember, this week the rape of a 3-year-old girl was reported in the city of Chiclayo, who was kidnapped and tied up in a building. To prevent the regrettable cases of rape that occur daily in the country, the National Director of Mental Health of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), Yuri Cutipé, said that work is necessary at the society level, but above all within families and households. In addition, he provided these suggestions to the Andean Agency.
- To educate children outside of machismo: Seeking to give the example that children and women are not the property of men and making it clear that they are independent beings, with rights that must be respected.
- Promote self-care: The expert also recommended that parents teach their children, whether men or women, to say 'no' to situations that could pose a certain danger to their mental and sexual health.
- Teach them to distinguish dangerous physical contacts: “Children, progressively, must learn, from upbringing and education, what types of hugs and approaches can be allowed and when to suspect something that could be risky for them,” he said.
- Have their own space to sleep: In addition, it is essential for the psychiatrist that each person has their own bed, in order to reduce overcrowding and the possibility of children sleeping with adults, which would expose them to possible sexual assault.
