The opposition parties kept their promise and rejected the Electric Reform promoted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO). As soon as the session ended, the deputies began to celebrate this triumph that they worked on for weeks.
Faced with this expected result, although hoping to be able to reverse it, members of the ruling bloc, formed by Morena, the PT and the Green Party began to express their dissatisfaction with this result, which, they said, could affect Mexico.
One of the first to make his opinion known was the national leader of the National Regeneration Movement, Mario Delgado Carrillo, who in his message from social networks stated that there was a “betrayal” on the part of the opposition, a situation that will be claimed in the future by the entire country.
“The betrayal of the homeland of PRI PAN MC and PRD is consummated. The people of Mexico will know how to claim them and collect them at the first opportunity. See you in June. There is a lot of people for so few traitors. Long live Mexico and its energy sovereignty!” , he shared.
Minutes before the result was made official, while listening to the last two votes in the back of the Chamber of Deputies, the Morenist legislator, Patricia Armendáriz, made a short video to express her anger, as there was no qualified majority to approve the initiative.
He pointed out that at least they got the advances in the Electricity Industry Law, in addition to this result that will cause people to question the parties of the opposition bloc for voting in this way against the Electricity Reform.
“We won by losing. I wish this had been cleaner, but we didn't make it. We were left with the advances of the LIE (Electricity Industry Act), which we really should have had. I feel sorry for the other parties because their credibility will be heavily questioned in their states. I'm terribly sorry,” said the businesswoman.
For his part, actor Damián Alcázar used a phrase by Benito Juárez to point out the opposition's “betrayal” in this matter. “Cursed are those who with their words defend the people and with their deeds betray them,” he wrote.
Finally, Morena's deputy, Leonel Godoy Rangel, advanced the victory for this Monday's discussion, in which it is proposed to vote for the Mining Law Reform, which will no longer require a qualified majority, only the full votes of Morena and her allies.
“In the discussion of the Electricity Reform, we won the vote (275 vs 223). We did not reach the qualified majority, but it will be enough for lithium to be owned by the nation. Tomorrow we will reform the Mining Law. The struggle continues,” shared the morenista.
This new opinion was announced by López Obrador in his government report for the first 100 days of 2022, although he remembered it before the vote, which is why he went on social media to to warn their next move in the event of this adverse scenario.
“I already said it in my report on Tuesday: no matter what happens, we are already shielded against treason. Tomorrow I will explain it again,” he wrote on his social networks.
An hour later, Morena's coordinator in the Chamber of Deputies, Ignacio Mier, announced that the presidential initiative to amend the Mining Law reached the legislative palace of San Lázaro to be discussed and approved, probably, on Monday.
Shortly after noon, legislators will begin this new session that aims, if approved, to nationalize lithium, an issue that Q4 has also paid a lot of attention to.
