The death of Freddy Rincón on April 14 has shocked Colombia and South American and world football. From the moment of the accident that led to the death of the former Colombia national team player, the authorities began the respective investigations and this Sunday the Attorney General's Office summoned the taxi driver to testify that he passed seconds after the tragic moment and witnessed the events.
According to the Police report, at 4:30 in the morning of Monday, April 4, a bus from the Massive Integrated of the West (MIO) and a Ford 4x4 truck, where the former midfielder was mobilizing with a group of friends, collided in the sector known as Las Banderas. After several days, Rincón was in critical condition due to the accident until he died last Holy Thursday.
On video it was recorded how the private car where Rincón was driving crosses the intersection without braking and suddenly the micro that rammed him at high speed appears. Passenger transport was embedded against a traffic light, with the front completely destroyed. For its part, the van where the former football player and his friends were traveling ended up one block ahead of the highway, on a platform, and with visible damage to the right side.
According to the authorities, this happened because whoever was driving the vehicle missed a red light located on race 34 with fifth street in Cali.
Seconds after the collision happened, a taxi driving on fifth street, in the south-north direction, stopped for a few seconds, noticed the accident and made a forbidden turn to reach the side of the crashed van of the Colombian National Team idol. For this reason, sources close to Noticias Caracol revealed that the public service driver has already been identified by the authorities and summoned to give his statement.

The media outlet explained that the taxi driver's testimony is of great importance to clarify who was driving the van that Rincón was in, the main question of the investigation being carried out by the authorities. The video shows how two people descend from the crashed vehicle and hold a brief conversation with the public service driver.
At the time it was speculated that Rincón himself was the one driving the vehicle that collided; however, the son of the Colossus of Buenaventura, Sebastián Rincón, denied that theory and asked the real responsible to open up. “Let's hope God does justice, that the Prosecutor's Office does its job, all I can say is that my dad wasn't driving. That leaves me very calm, because in the face of false accusations the truth will come to light”, declared the striker of Club Atlético Barracas Central.
Regarding the investigation, it has also been highlighted that other legal problems weigh on the van, such as that its Compulsory Traffic Accident Insurance (SOAT) is expired and it has reports of several mobility violations.
The company Seguros Generales Suramericana S.A. was the last to issue the SOAT to the vehicle and it would have expired since December 1, 2021. On the other hand, the technical-mechanical review was in effect and was issued by the Automotive Diagnostic Center, Buenatmospere, in Buga (Valle del Cauca).
