The death of Freddy Rincón continues to mourn the world of football. After the legend of national football was involved in that traffic accident, in the early hours of last Monday, April 11, the tributes have not stopped.
This Sunday, for example, América and Deportivo Cali held a special celebration during the Vallecaucano classic corresponding to the date 16 of the 2022-I BetPlay League. In the northern grandstand of the Pascual Guerrero stadium, a series of images and videos were projected recalling his deeds and, in addition, the footballers took to the field wearing the Colombia team jersey with the number 19 number, which used the 'Colossus of Buenaventura' in the 'Tricolor'.
However, there are still many doubts surrounding his fatal accident. One of them concerns who was driving the vehicle when the collision occurred with an articulated part of MÍO, Cali's mass transit system. One of Rincón's sons, Sebastian, has previously stated that his father was not behind the wheel; but some reports studied by the Attorney General's Office would indicate that he was found in the pilot's position.
In the midst of the investigations, singer Harold Saa, close friend of Rincón, gave new details about the last hours of the former Colombian football player. As he explained in an interview with Caracol Radio's 'El Carrusel' program, after Freddy was home to watch Colombian football and share with other friends, on the evening of Sunday, April 10, he left for a restaurant, around 11:00 in the evening.
It was at the beginning of the commercial establishment that the 'Colossus' would have suffered the traffic accident, at 4:30 in the morning of Monday. “The version I hear and the one I think is that Freddy was driving,” Saa said.
“He and about 7 other people went to a restaurant on the 39th. They ate and Freddy recovered. They were there for like 2 or 3 hours. Then they decided to leave and, as far as I understand, Freddy took the car,” added the salsa singer.
Finally, the artist, who did not go to the food establishment, specified that the initial objective was for the escorts from Rincón to leave him at home, and then, for them to continue their journey in the van: “He told the other people to do the route. But he drove because he felt good, I think, because he was very prudent.”

In another dialogue with Blu Radio, Saa said that Rincón arrived at his home with the van “he always brought” and, in addition, he said that “he arrived with two balds, which I don't know.” However, it is still unknown whether the two women indicated by the Colombian artist correspond to the same two women who were in the car with Rincón at the time of the incident. These were identified by the authorities as Maria Manuela Patiño, 20, and Diana Lorena Cortes, 43.
Rincón, according to Saa's recent words in El País de Cali, would have met the first woman in the last establishment where he stayed, while the second was known: “Diana Lorena is the mother of a goddaughter of mine, to whom we sang her birthday that same day. She went with the group that came out, I think to The Bronx, the nightclub, because Freddy invited her, along with the others.”
The Colombian artist even claimed that Cortés is the one who appears in the recording in which a man, who apparently got out of the car, threatened a citizen to take away his phone if he continued to record the scene: “She is the one who appears in a video screaming 'sir, no, no'” he said.
The positions on whether or not Rincón was driving are very diverse. Initially, it was thought that the former footballer was going as a co-driver considering that this area of the van was the one that received the greatest impact. However, in the middle of the funeral of the Colombian football idol, Faustino Asprilla was heard regretting that his friend did not have a driver.
“Marica, I started crying again for Freddy. No, Freddy has turned us into crap. Freddy sent himself the biggest screw up he could have sent. I ride with a driver, these guys drive the car for me, they take care of me. Freddy was too important a person. Jueputa, played for Real Madrid. That's not even me that I was the best player in Colombia,” he said.
