The parliamentarian of Peru Libre, Guido Bellido, was accused of committing the crime of trading in influence or bribery for favors that he would have asked the advisor of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism ( Mincetur), Daniel Abarca. A Panorama report revealed alleged chats between the former prime minister and his so-called 'political godson' where he asks him to place him in the Vice-Ministry of Tourism.

After learning the content of Sunday's note, Bellido decided to speak out through his Twitter account, denying such accusations and asking Abarca to clarify the situation. He assured that he will take legal measures “to ensure respect for his honor”.

“Regarding Mrs. Jackeline Zúñiga's complaint, I never received photos, nor did I know about their relationship. Regarding Mr. Abarca, he is not my friend, I met him through an interview and since that date he sent opinions. I had nothing to do with his appointment to the position of trust as an advisor,” Bellido said.

“How is it that the lady who says she has no money for her tickets, today has to defame me in the media. Are third parties interested in harming me, who are paying you for your stay? , I urge Mr. Abarca to clarify these allegations. I will take legal action to enforce my honor,” another tweet reads.

BRIBERY CRIME AND ITS CONSEQUENCES

As revealed by the Sunday report, when Pedro Castillo assumed the presidency, Daniel Abarca would have written to Guido Bellido to congratulate him and immediately sent him his CV. The former premier's response was to ask him where he wanted to be assigned and he replied “in the Vice-Ministry of Tourism or National Directorate of Tourism Development”.

The parliamentarian of Peru Libre would have already assumed the position of premier after Abarca was granted the position of adviser to Mincetur, who earned S/ 15,000 monthly soles. From that moment on, Bellido would have written to him to access passages and other favors.

All these coordination and meetings were held in a house in Lima, this would be the former advisor's. In the place, the former premier, Abarca and other businessmen he represented gathered. Diego Lombardero Lamas and Diego Aguinaga were part of the so-called 'Diegos', to which both officials used to also accept their requests.

Criminal law specialist Carlos Caro mentioned that this practice is illegal, since two officials cannot exchange favors and benefits in exchange for a position in a State entity or tenders with private companies.

For the former Mincetur advisor, things would not be as simple as they seem, because being a lobbyist for a couple of tourism entrepreneurs he will also have the resulting in an administrative sanction or the offense of unlawful sponsorship, incompatible negotiation or trading in influence.

For Guido Bellido, it would also be a point against, since he could begin to be investigated for trading in influence or bribery, corruption and of being found guilty sentenced to 8 years in prison, as stipulated by the Penal Code.
