One of the most important cultural events in the continent, the Bogotá International Book Fair 2022, will take place between April 19 and May 2 with different programming commitments, both the avant-garde and the tradition of the literary industry for the city and for all the visitors that the capital receives with South Korea as guest of honor in this edition.
The event will open next Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in the José Asunción Silva auditorium. After the opening day, on April 20, there are spaces such as a forum on literary translation, a conversation with journalist Juan Lozano in which he will discuss narrative and digital ecosystems with researchers to launch new publications from the Sergio Arboleda University, among others. One of the most important events of the day is the presidential debate 'Beyond politics: culture and regions', where they will present their proposals on culture and education, but also on other relevant issues such as environment, peace and gender; as well as the official presentation of the Colombian Writers Library, an initiative by Colombian writer Pilar Quintana and the Ministry of Culture.
On the part of the national and international guests, FilBo will have the participation of some such as Isabel Allende, who is appearing for the first time in the FIlBo, virtually; Cristian Alarcón, winner of the 2022 Alfaguara Award; Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary General of the United Nations who visits the fair to celebrate the 60th years of diplomatic relations between Colombia and Korea, as well as the presentation of his memoirs book translated into Spanish by the University of Los Andes; and characters such as actor Pedro Alonso (“Berlin” in La Casa de Papel) who will release his 'Book of Filipo'.
Among the names of international authors and authors who are part of the program are Portuguese writers Afonso Cruz and Rui Cardoso Martins, Chilean astronomer José María Masa Sancho, Dutch writers and illustrators Stern Nijland and Linda de Haan, Mexican translator Selma Ancira, Chilean writer María José Navia, Icelandic author Maria Rán Guðjónsdóttir and Romanian narrator Mircea Catarescu, among many others.
Now, on the part of Colombians, there are writer Héctor Abad Faciolince, the playwright María Adelaida Palacio Duque; Maria Brugés Polo, a science journalist; the writer Carolina Andújar, who arrives with the fourth and most recent book of her saga 'Carmina Nocturna', Janeth Liliana Calambás representative of the Misak people and to the guide and interpreter of the Colombian Association of the Deafblind, Johana Hidrobo, within the fair's inclusive agenda, writers Camila Sosa Villada and Gabriela Wiener in programming specializing in gender, feminism, among others.
About the Korean Pavilion, the guest of honour, represents a particular symbolism around literature, with a common thread that will deal with “coexistence”, between people, nations, humanity and nature. “Through Korean motifs with this meaning, it is intended to engage in a dialogue at the Korean Pavilion of the Bogotá International Book Fair”, with representation in all disciplines of the publishing industry, science, diplomatic relations and the arts.
Among the guests at this meeting are workshop artist Heo Soojung, who will share with the attendees an origami activity, one of the traditional arts in Korea. At events of this type there will also be calligrapher Kim Isaac, sociologist Kim Hong Jung, novelist Han Kang, among others. In addition to the usual programming, FilBo will hold the FilBo Ciencia strip on Monday, April 25, in which different guests will participate in activities and discussions on literature, science, technology, culture and development.
It is important to note that the Fair is open from Sunday to Thursday between 10:00am and 7:00pm, and on Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00am to 9:00pm. The ticket office will open at 9:00 a.m. every day, from Sunday to Thursday it will close at 7:00 p.m. and on Fridays, as well as Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., for the general public over 13 years old, admission costs $10,000 and for children between 5 and 12 years old $6,500.
