A new case of abduction of a minor was recorded in the city of Barranca, north of Lima. This is the daughter of the mayor of this town, who herself prevented the driver of a motorcycle taxi from taking her by force; jumping from the smaller vehicle in motion.

The mother of the young woman, wife of the burgomaster, Zender Sánchez, spoke to the news program ATV, where she told details of this case that continues to expose minors.

“I took my daughter to school like every day. I usually take these motorcycle taxis because we are close at the same time. I ask the driver to go through a winery before arriving at school, I got off to buy some things and the driver starts at full speed with my daughter inside,” Tatiana Cueva, mother of the minor, told ATV.

After this reaction from the driver, the young woman, meters ahead and with the motorcycle taxi in motion, decided to jump to avoid being kidnapped. The desperate mother cries for help, which alarmed the neighbors of the Arica sector with Puerto Chico passage.

After the girl jumps out of the minor vehicle, her mother and other people around them run to help her. According to her mother, she only has a few bumps and scrapes.

After this case was heard and after shouting from the mother, the police managed to capture the driver of this motorcycle and he was taken to the police station to give his statement.

However, the mayor's wife said that the individual was released after 24 hours for not finding “more evidence” in this process. He also assured that despite filing a complaint, the authorities said that there were no conditions to hold him longer in the police station.

“No one has threatened us, or anything like that, I think this was something fortuitous. All I ask is that the course of the investigation be continued,” explained the mother of the minor.

He also said that “let's leave aside the position that my husband holds, this could have happened to any parent and the truth is that we are all exposed”.

According to police reports, following the capture of the suspect, the mayor of Barranca, Zender Sánchez, arrived at the police station in the sector to file his complaint with the authorities.

The population of Barranca is appalled and alarmed by this new case that targets minors. On the other hand, they requested greater police and municipal safeguards in schools to protect them from the wave of kidnappings that continues to increase day by day in Peru.

Young man threw himself from a motorcycle taxi in motion when he saw the mototaxi driver's intentions to take her away.

ALARMING NUMBERS OF SEXUAL ABUSE OF MINORS

According to the Aurora Program of the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations, from January to October 2021, more than 12,828 cases of sexual violence were dealt with in children aged 0 to 17 years. These complaints were recorded in the Women's Emergency Centers (CEM) and involve harassment, touching, among other manifestations.

Through a report from the Aurora National Program, between January and February 2022, 484 cases and 596 cases were dealt with respectively. All in population from 0 to 17 years old. The difference makes a total of 112 cases. There is a worrying increase.

One of the regions with the highest number of complaints is Piura, with 99 cases in recent months. This was stated by Milagros Mendoza, the director of the NGO Centro Ideas, as these figures would show that, every day, more than one girl or adolescent is a victim of sexual violence. He also added that this trend has been going back to 2021, when it was reported that 563 children under the age of 17 were victims of this type of violence.
