All public schools in the country must have a physical education teacher

According to Bill No. 464-2021 recently approved by the Congress of the Republic, all public schools at all levels shall have at least a physical education professional to promote the practice of sports disciplines with the aim of improving the psychomotor development of schoolchildren and preparing the best for discharge competition.

Giovanni Corvetto, the head of the Department of Physical Education and Sport of the General Directorate of Regular Basic Education of the Ministry of Education (Minedu), supported the legislative initiative amending article 50 of Law No. 30432, concerning the National Sports Policy .

“This initiative, unanimously approved by the Congress of the Republic, is the beginning of a historic process of constant struggle by many actors to reassess physical education and its importance in human, sports and social development; it will also allow the gradual conversion of possible places of education teachers physical to organic places in the appointment process of 2023 ″, he said.

In addition, he noted that since 1972 there have been no organic physical education places for the primary level. This would have determined that children and adolescents did not have adequate psychomotor development. They would also have caused sedentary lifestyle in schoolchildren and neglect in sports development in schools and colleges.

He also recalled that in 2001 Minedu implemented physical education through a pilot plan in the area of Personal Development of Motor Skills, and after 13 years the National Plan for Physical Education and School Sport was established as a strategy for educational and social intervention.

1400 ORGANIC PLACES

Giovanni Corvetto indicated that the amendment of Law No. 30432 will make it possible to convert an average of 1,400 temporary physical education teaching places into organic ones.

In addition, he considered that “physical education not only seeks the development of sports talent, it also seeks human development and contributes to the socio-emotional development and social skills of people”.

Meanwhile, Congresswoman Elizabeth Medina, author of the project, said that the initiative, which is the result of her experience as a teacher in the specialty of physical education, will promote the practice of the various sports disciplines and identify talents that will be trained for high competition. “Sport is health, it avoids sedentary lifestyle and obesity,” he said during the support of the opinion.

PROFESSIONAL IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION

According to the director of the Professional School of Physical Education of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Abelardo Campana, more and more companies are requesting the services of physical education professionals for the body maintenance of their workers. In addition, not only schools demand them, but also gyms, municipalities and clubs.

He said that this race allows humans to improve their innate physical abilities such as speed, strength-endurance and flexibility.

“At the university, future physical education professionals are trained in anatomy, physiology, statistics and research courses; therefore, they are prepared to perform successfully,” he told the Andean Agency in 2019.
