In the Manrique neighborhood, commune 3 of Medellín, the murder of a deputy mayor of the National Police occurred early this Sunday, April 17. The uniformed man was identified as Eduard Giovany Guarín Quiroz, who was hit by gunshots after being hit by several people.
The subintendent was 43 years old and was attacked exactly in the 36th race with 82nd street, in the northeastern part of the capital of Antioquia. According to the authorities and some witnesses to the incident, the policeman was in civilian clothes and was on leave when several people on motorcycles and on foot began to attack him.
It was recorded on the security cameras when one of the assailants pulled out a firearm and shot him; the petty officer ran out, but fell a few blocks later. The police officers from the quadrant arrived at the scene and helped Guarín, who was transferred to the San Vicente Fundación Hospital; however, when he arrived he no longer had vital signs.
Colonel José Galindo, operational commander, spoke about the investigation in progress with the newspaper El Colombiano. “It is being ruled out whether it is an act of intolerance or what are the circumstances surrounding it,” said the official. He also noted that the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Police are working together and deployed all investigative capacities to “identify and capture those responsible for the murder.”
The Aburrá Valley Metropolitan Police sent a message about the murder of the non-commissioned officer through their Twitter account. “We mourn the death of our companion, Subintendent Eduard Giovanni Guarín. Deployed all institutional capacities to capture those responsible. Our total solidarity with his family”, wrote the entity.
Police Killings
With the death of Guarín Quiroz, two crimes have been committed this weekend against members of the Colombian National Police. The other case occurred in Cesar, where patrolman Jonny Contreras was a victim of intolerance when he was doing his duty, following a call from the community in Aguachica.
The Metropolitan Police patrolman died from a machete that he received in the head, while he was attending a family quarrel that was reported in the Villa Paraguay neighborhood. Contreras and his companions were received by a machete by a man identified as Ezequiel Pedraza García, 22 years old.

According to the authorities, the police were alerted to a stab fight, and, when they were in the proceedings, they were attacked with a machete. The inhabitants of the sector intervened to arrest Pedraza, while police reinforcements arrived, managing to capture the subject.
Second Lieutenant Jesús Barón tried to neutralize the aggressor with his equipment weapon, shooting him, but he managed to hit him with a machete in the arm, for which he is under assistance. Meanwhile, the patrolman was transferred seriously injured to a health care center where he died.
The alleged aggressor, injured in the middle of the police procedure, was captured and will respond to the Prosecutor's Office with the full weight of the Citizen Security Act. At the same time, last Saturday, April 16, a minute of silence was held in front of the facilities of the country's various police departments. The uniformed men paid tribute to Jonny Contreras for his death.
