Why Elsa Aguirre's sister retired from the cinema of the Golden Age

Alma Rosa Aguirre and her sister Elsa became two of the most important actresses in cinema of the Golden Age, they were highly sought after among producers, however, the oldest of them decided to retire amid their success.

The career of the Aguirre sisters began when Alma Rosa, Hilda and Elsa began to participate in beauty pageants together. They always managed to attract the attention of the judges, so they were soon the first to be considered to venture into cinema.

In 1945 the three signed a contract to participate in three films during that year, but they did not have the approval of their parents, as some people did not see young women who were engaged in entertainment.

That's why her mother took them all out of the way after having participated in her second film. However, Elsa and Alma's liking to stay in the cinema was stronger and they managed to get their parents to allow them to continue their acting careers, Hilda was the only one who didn't want to return.

On several occasions the sisters acted together; the films Los viejos are like this, The league of girls, La liga de las perversa, Loving was her sin, Pride of a woman, Love your neighbor with Mario Moreno Cantinflas, were some of the ones that united them on screen.

Although the audience wanted them together because they knew them that way, each one took their own course shortly after they ventured into cinema. Both Alma and Elsa were hired for different films, which is why their career was rarely related.

After working on Women's Pride (1955), Alma Rosa moved away from cinema because she wanted to start a family. He married and had a daughter, Emma Isela, to whom he wanted to dedicate all his time, and he did so for three years.

In the time she devoted herself completely to her home, her marriage did not proceed well, so she decided to divorce and bring her daughter forward alone. That's why he returned to the show in 1958 with the film Cuando ¡Viva Villa! is death.

Although her career was very successful, she would have realized that on many occasions it was not her thing, in fact, she constantly thought about leaving acting and taking refuge at home with her daughter, there she had found her maximum comfort.

As Elsa Aguirre recounted in The Minute My Fate Changed, she and her sister met one day and talked about how they felt that the film world was imprisoning them and not letting them enjoy their lives. After several hours of talk, they agreed to retire together.

When Elsa was 29 and Alma 30, they went on a press tour to announce that they would retire after having dedicated 15 years of their life to it, but they only released a news story announcing that “we want to be girls like all girls”.

Alma Rosa determined that her retirement was definitive, although in 1972 she returned in the film Between nuns and the devil, together with Vicente Fernández. For her part, the protagonist of Beware of Love later returned.

Currently, since 2018, she lives in the Actor's House, where her brothers Elsa and Jesus, as well as her daughter Emma, visit her.

In an interview with TV Notas in 2020, she shared that she lives happily, remembers her years in the cinema with pleasure and is not afraid of death.
