Weeks after criticism for his performance and his level as a revulsive in the Tigres team of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL), Sebastián Córdova was called up in the title draw of the squad led by Miguel Herrera. His participation met the expectations of the coach and supporters, as he had direct participation in the first two goals of the rout over the Toluca Red Devils.

Confident in continuing to score points to reach the top of the tournament, Piojo Herrera sent an offensive lineup led by André-Pierre Gignac, Florian Thauvin and Luis Quiñones. While not surprising in the trident, the presence of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic medallist came to the eye of the fans. From the earliest moments, he sought to recover and distribute balls for his team.

The impetus of the Toluca Red Devils to avoid leaving the repechage zone was a factor in preventing actions from opening up in the first minutes of the match. However, after the 15-minute break, an error in the back and the Tigers' offensive presence in the rival area allowed the zero to break. In the play, Córdova was in charge of starting the attack that ended in goal.
