Although Holy Week is supposed to be for reflection, gathering and religious celebrations, in Girón, a town that corresponds to the metropolitan area of Bucaramanga (Santander), the authorities seized 150 weapons and sharps carried by some of the people who intended to attend the processions that were carried out in the municipality.
According to the regional television news report Oriente Noticias, these elements, as well as narcotics, were found in just 8 hours at the security points that were implemented for those who would like to participate in the viacrucis. They even found a 14-inch knife hidden inside a baby carriage carried by one of the attendants.
“We protect the safety of our visitors during Holy Week! With the 10 control filters and thanks to the searches of people executed by the Police and the National Army, we managed to seize sharps and narcotics”, They published on their official Twitter account.
All these people who were found by the sharps were imposed the corresponding cases that could lead to fines of up to four valid daily minimum wages, that is 130,000 pesos.
On the Caracol Radio station they indicated that some 50,000 people came from both the metropolitan area and other cities in the country, where the religious patron saint is The Lord of the Miracles whose figure is used to make tours within the municipality during Holy Week.
One of the traditions, they reported on the radio, is precisely the procession of the Via Crucis, which starts from the municipal seat of Girón and reaches the town of Regidor, where the image is transported to the church of that town to worship it.
With regard to this department, the Technical Corps of Investigation (CTI) of the Attorney General's Office was in charge of the case in which a soldier killed one of his colleagues after shooting him with his equipment weapon, after completing his surveillance work at the post that was installed on the road leading to the canyon of the Chicamocha.
According to the regional newspaper Vanguardia, the death of the soldier occurred on Good Friday and he was identified as Juan José Durán Acero who was part of the Artillery Battalion No. 5 Captain José Antonio Galán.
For the fact, in the Army they published a communiqué in which they indicated that the circumstances in which the events occurred are investigated by the CTI. The Alerta Santanderes radio station cited one of the parts of the letter confirming that the man in uniform was injured by a colleague.
“Apparently, at the end of the tasks carried out at the roadside checkpoint that troops were carrying out over the Chicamocha Canyon, another soldier in circumstances to be established would have activated his endowment weapon against the humanity of Durán Acero, who died on the spot,” they explained.
The station also indicated that the body of the dead soldier was transferred to the Legal Medicine headquarters in Bucaramanga for the respective forensic analysis.
In addition, the military announced that they will carry out the corresponding disciplinary and criminal proceedings to establish how the soldier's death occurred. They also sent their condolences to the family of the deceased soldier.
