This Monday will start the Tour of the Alps, a race in which the Colombian Miguel Ángel López will take place, which will be prior to the Giro d'Italia, which will be held between May 6 and 29. This competition will be held for five days and will run until next Friday, April 22nd.

Colombian Miguel Ángel López, Spaniard Mikel Landa and Frenchman Thibaut Pinot are among the favorites who will participate in the Alps race from Monday, which will take place between Italy and Austria.

The slopes with significant percentages and the mountainous profile are the hallmark of the 45th edition of a test previously known as the Giro del Trentino. The start will be on Monday from Cles (Italy) and the final will take place on Friday in Lienz (Austria).

STAGE 1. Cles — Primiero/S. Martino di Castrozza. 159 km

After a quick start, the stage will become more complicated starting with the intermediate sprint of Pergine Valsugana. After crowning Pieve Ticino, runners will have to climb Passo Brocon (15 km to 4.9%) and Passo Gobbera (4.3 km to 5.5%). A quick descent will take them to Imer, where they will enter the final circuit. At 3 km from the finish line, you will find the small but demanding hill “Molaren”, which will determine the first leader of the race.

STAGE 2. Primiero/S. Martino di Castrozza — Lana. 153 km

First stage of high mountain. After the start, runners will have to climb Passo Rolle with 20 km of ascent and an altitude of 1,984 meters. The descent will take them to the intermediate sprint in Cavalese. Another long descent and the party begins: first the Meldelpass/Passo della Mendola. After a short descent, the road steepens again at Gampenpass/Passo Palade. After crowning, they will travel downhill again until there are 18 km left to the finish line. Flat terrain up to the last 3 kilometers, which gently bite upwards.

STAGE 3. Wool — Niederdorf/Villabassa. 149 km

Without any demands in the first part of the stage, until the intermediate sprint in Feldthurns/Bressanone. The first KOM of the day was found a few kilometers later, in Terenten/Terento (6.1 km to 8%). A nice descent will take them to Bruneck/Brunico, where they will gradually begin to climb to the toughest port of the day: Fulkelpass/Passo Furcia (7.9 km to 7.6%), with the last kilometer at 10%. When crowning, 24 kilometers are left to the finish line, of which 10 are in descent. Final in a very slight rise.

Flat ground starting to the Kötschach (KOM 2nd). From there, descent to the next climb of the race: Gailberg Sattel, 3rd. After the short descent, flat to the gentle hills leading to the intermediate sprint on Lienz Zettersfeldbahn. The final ascent, of Kals am Grossglockner, is 12.5 km: the first 3,000 metres are the most demanding with an average slope of 9%; then a flat stretch of 4 km, and then climb the next three kilometres to 6%. The last two kilometers are false plain.

STAGE 5. Lienz — Lienz. 116 km

The last stage is the shortest of the race: 116 kilometers, but on difficult terrain. After an easy 30 km, cyclists will have to climb the Bannberg (5.5 km to 10%) on its most demanding side. A steep and curvy descent will lead you to the next climb up Assling (4 km to 10%). A series of ups and downs will take the runners to the intermediate sprint in Anras. After the sprint, 15 km quiet to climb the Bannberg again on its simplest side. After a descent, the road will lead them to Lienz, where they will cross the finish line for the first time, although before the end of the real stage they will have to climb Stronach (3 km with double digits). At the top of the port, there will be 10 km left for the closure, the first five in descent and the following plains. Here, in Lienz, the 2022 Alps Tour will end.
